Hi lads,

Just a hypothetical thread ;) but how much would you reckon a 2.5L short motor would set me back?

And also what cars have them?

Been reading some VEEEERY interesting stuff the past day or two ;)

Cheers

Built short block from Subaru from memory would cost €2-3k

Second hand, you'd probably get the long block for €1k or less, then you can sell the heads yourself. But while you have the short block, you'd be best upgrading the pistons and rods to forged ones.

UK Hawk wrx/sti have 2.5's as standard, some foresters also have them. Not sure on the difference in specs though

Yeah I know how much engine are from Subaru.... Regrettably.... Haha wouldnt go that route again

Yeah I hear they are a pretty soft engine compared to the EJ20, not sure how much uprated internals would cost though..

Did think about finding a blown one.. But they there is no telling the damage untill you crack it open..

Been speaking to a chap that put a 2.5 in his Legacy, got it remapped (which I plan to do anyway) and his power at 4500rpm was up from 188 to 280 ish

Nice increase in low down power :D

Got me thinking

Huge increase in torque with the 2.5 alright, be a nice job. Not sure how much to fit the pistons and rods, couldn't see more than €7-800 as you'll just be handing them the engine without having the labour to take it out of the car. Then of course your own engine would be worth a few bob to sell on as well so might not be too bad. The most expensive part of the process would be taking out your engine, stripping the heads, the fitting the heads to the 2.5 (not sure if the need to be machined for the 2.5) and refitting the engine to the car.

I know exactly how much that will cost actually, from last time lol

Engine out, ancillary swap, engine back in = €1000 :O

Ill get a crane and do it myself haha
