read the link in Cetlics post.. it makes very painfull reading .. my car tax is now €1005 per year.. unreal

Thats harsh, i just put a full year on mine, think it was €614. A €46 increase is crazy for a 2.0 litre...
They are all going mad about the % increase on Band A etc but mine (& most of the club) is up almost the same monetary amount and it has'nt been mentioned, not to mention increase in petrol etc!

I'm going mad over the woman's car, its a 1.4 diesel and we stretched ourselves to get up to a 2008 level so we could take advantage of the lower tax bands and try to maintain some sort of resale value. Over a 50% raise in annual tax now, and there will be another big hit for those levels next year too so by the time we come to sell it, there'll be fook all in the difference. And fook all reason for anyone to aim for the 2008 on bracket :angry1: :angry1:

Im being honest here we can call the government everything under the sun and complain all we want but we can do nothing and us being Irish will do nothing to challenge this rise in car tax. One thing I will be doing is only taxing the car maybe twice a year for 3 months only .Not a fooking chance am I paying that yearly rate.

Can you imagine what a new STi would cost to tax.

They new they fucked up giving cheap tax to so cars since 2008 so it was only a matter of time.

Disgraceful u-turn alright having incentivised people to buy more efficient cars and now wiping out that incentive

thats ridiculous up 46 euro on a 2liter. They should have just increased the tax on the newer cars. i wont be paying the full yearly tax

It was FF who set the low tax rates on small engine and efficient cars to win the popularity vote with ourselves and with EU to seem like they where tackling the challenge to reduce our carbon emissions. This crowd in power now are only setting it higher to try and find revenue to pay the debts run up by the previous shower of wankers. I'm not saying I agree with it but road tax was always a big revenue and was unrealistically set by FF with no foresight into what would happen if we turned to greener cars with lower tax brackets.

Well said that man, ably assisted by the Greens. Eco-friendly politics is grand when there's loads of cash sloshing about, but not in a recession. In a country with predominantly low-mid size petrol engines paying 300-600 euro per annum every year, there was a nice little earner under the previous tax regime. In 2008, a lot of those people put themselves into a sub-156 euro bracket meaning the govt only hauled in a fraction of the annual revenue they used to. It wouldn't take a genius to figure out that this would need a serious correction in a fewyears time to redress the balance

have these fuckin idiots no clue, why arent they fuckin the croke park agreement n the bin, capping high earners and pensions in the public sector... load of cock no ideas, invention or innovation to get out of this mess.

Same sh*t different year for budget, motorist gets fucked again

I work in the public sector and its top heavy.. too many chiefs and not enough indians

I've 3 things to tax so between all its a €100 year extra

The greens encouraged 'green' cars and low emission diesels post 08, thats when the tax band came in. Typical goverment maneuver, encourage the sale of certain cars then hammer the poor unfortunates that bought them.

I'd say they'll do something with vrt as well. In 2007 they took in €1.4billion ,this year they have only taken in less than 400 million ,some difference!
