Front drives are all the same thickness ken, only difference is the wide track impreza onwards front drives plug into the box as opposed to the older type that have the 'nubs' in the gearbox..

UK 5 speed you are wasting your time as they won't see much past 300 without having centre diff issues... sti 5 speed box may do a little better but can't say for sure, type-r box will take a good bit more (up to 400 speculated) as it has the plated centre diff which will take the power...

Be careful of the type of 6 speed you go for (if you do), as phil said above, i got caught by getting an early non dccd box which has an open front diff and thats what collapsed on me.. Get a later box and go for a dccd version... Early japs are 3.9, uk are 3.6 and later japs are 3.6 also...
