Im very upset guys, my dog bit my neighbor,, advice please..

Wrx ian

Petrolheads
Hi everyone, Earlier on today a neighbor was walking past my house and because of the ice and snow walked along the edge of my front grass instead of the road,, Oscar my 5 year old collie took it badly and gave her a small bite on her ankle. It drew blood. he dose not like people coming near HIS patch and likes to defends. unfortunately he has bitten this woman before when she had a snoop around our garden when we were out.. this time she is real pissed off and is calling for him to be put down... now he has also gone for some scumbags that were having a look round the cars and the house so its not like its just her or anything..

He is very loving and anyone we introduce him to falls in love with him.. all the kids play with him and he is very well behaved.

I would like to Re-Home him,, but dont know what i should do.. he is going to the Vets on monday or the dog warden is coming to get him.

What should i do?

Oscar is on the left..

Or get the aul one really drunk and show her your charm.................. :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Exactly, she was asking for it

if she was on your property i don't see the problem. Keep the dog and stick up a private property sign straight away

Rite fella......

Tell her to proove your dog bit her.....
Did she have any witnessesses? was it dark?
Stick up a private property sign as sugested above

get a mate to write a statement to say you and him were out with the dogs at a forest somewere....
and hope to god the dog doesnt attack / show agression to the dog warden when he visits

It looks like a really nice dog and it would be a shame to see it destroyed because of some nosey b1tch who should have known better. But, and you are not going to like this, why let a dog that has bitten before roam about unleashed. I could understand if it was in a walled or cordoned off area, but in the front garden, surely that's a no no. I have a dog and have had other dogs and I would never let them run free. I really hope you get it sorted, but I would promise nosey b1tch that the dog would always be tethered and see if she would be ok with that.

Heya there guys just to put it in context i live in the middle of no were, there's only 6 houses on my road for about 3 miles.... it just dus'nt look good anyway....

Sorry to hear Ian, It must be horrible facing that. Maybe try talk to her tomorrow when she has cooled off a little. Try show her what losing the dog would do to you and hopefully talk her out of taking action. (I'm assuming she has a compassionate side)
If that fails tell her to expect a solicitors letter for trespassing and provoking the attack.

il be honest i wouldn't start playing hardball with her..look for a home for him or he'll be dead..ask her for some time to re home him...happened me when I was a kid my dog was taken after he bit a kid on my road..a kid who was 4 years older than me and chased me into my back garden dog was only protecting me but nothing we could do...we had to give him away I was heart broken...find a home for him ya can't have a dog that bites its that simple. Good luck with it.

Its a real shame when this happens, people annoy the animal
then get biten, dog is put down or moved!
You need a dog living in the countryside especially one thats good
at protecting your home. Hope you can get him re-homed.

Tell her to proove your dog bit her.....

Stick up a private property sign as sugested above

As above,

and The Warden can not take an animal or the dog to be destroyed without proof, if that was the case people would be reporting claims all the time.
If she wants to take it further she may get a court order and then prove it in court,
I wouldn't roll over and let your dog get destroyed because at the end of the day "she entered your property without your prior consent or knowledge" But the dog must not be able to pass outside your property at any time without being under your control.
It could get nasty so therefor i would calmly talk to the woman and assure her that it will never happen again and also ask her to contact you first before she enters your property in the future.
Don't offer her money to solve the problem as you are then admitting liability. If she does decided to take it further then you hit her with the the trespassing issue.
I hope it can be sorted and everyone can reach an agreement.
All the best.

As above. Great advice from Nic.

Beautiful dog. I guarantee you that if you destroy the dog it will haunt you for a very long time. Worst case rehome him but please don't destroy him. :icon_cry: It is also important to differentiate between an attack and a nip or warning. Collie's will nip at the ankles of sheep/cattle to move a stubborn cow. She seems to fit that description perfectly  It's in their breed. This is instint, not aggression. He was protecting you and your property against a stubborn cow that wasn't moving. If this was a full on attack you wouldn't be here asking our advice. A nip from a collie is just that, it's a bluff to :1poke: the animal to move.

If it was me I would fight tooth and nail to keep him. He seem's to be doing what he was designed to do by nature. As Nic said the warden can't just show up and take your dog. Anyway the dog was with you all day, wasn't he?? Make sure you have a current dog licence for him though.

Best of luck with this awkward situation.

first off you wont be able to rehome a dog that bites, so forget that.

as what dave was saying, collies bite every day of the week to put things in there place so it wasnt the dogs fault, no matter were you live ian, the dog should be in a enclosed area and people have the right to walk to your door with out being biten.e.g. post man, garda, ups with parts for your car

if the dog has biten the same woman before your going to have some fight on your hands if she reported the first one
if the warden does come looking and he will with out telling you, make sure the collie doesnt bite him/her or the dog is defo going to the bridge
also make sure you have a dog lience

its a tricky one to call, but try have a talk to the woman to reasure her it wont happen again and make sure your dog is kept out the back

all i know is if i where bitin by a dog in his garden i would give the benifit once to the owner, but twice and the dog would be gettin it

and i love dogs

More nip then bite,, he is from a working farm.. and all our dogs have radio collars and can not leave a restricted area, the drive way and front door are all dog free zone and people visiting the house are grand,, if anyone wants a great friend loyal companion then please contact me,,

my mates dog bit a scum bag that was in his garden
the dog warden took him off to be put down. :icon_cry:
warden told him once they bite they have 2 go.
