Impreza reliability

I don't have much knowledge about Subaru's but I was wondering what would people consider the best place to start as regarding imprezas. Would it be the first generation or second generation cars. I would be looking for a WRX model. Which is better from the point of view of reliability, power, handling etc.
 
As above.

New age STI or WRX.
You will get bored of the power of a wrx very quickly, so if you intend doing mods
Start with the Sti!
It will cost a fortune to get a wrx up to big power.
 
I second that !! I had a b4 then a classic impreza gt2 then a Wrx and now I have a newage jdm Sti and the Sti is the best of them all.

I went for new age very happy, no problems in almost 4years, apart from normal wear and tear.. Classics are getting old and its very hard to find one with good history these days as people are holding onto them.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread but I have a very clean low mileage 99 Classic that I may be selling in the next month or so as I have too many cars on the go.

I don't have any pics at the moment unfortunately but if you were interested I could get some early next week.
 
a newage wrx is just about bullet proof my car is proof of that fact,would recommend them all day long if goin sti i would go for a version 8 on

Confused as why a V7 would be an issue?
 
Robbies is fully original subaru JDM engine.


No basis for that Dec imo.

And being a irish subaru forum to somehow wipeout
Bug STi reliabilty is not accurate. As with no factual basis or backup.
 
sorry must be mixing it up with another car taught it was built ,i dont think dave if someone is goin to buy a bug sti that my opinion is goin to make any difference to their decision to buy or not ,i am just voiceing an opinion that i hold about bug sti's its my own personal opinion and its one i stand by .i would not buy one i think the newer cars are better p.s i know of several none club cars that have failed

But yes. A newbe reading this and a committie member/long standing club member in an impreza reliability thread
Says bug STi's are not reliable imo may or will influence someone buying one. And also as the Euro and JDM engine are different stereotypes and generalises them by the front end cosmetics of the chassis.

So how does a pair of headlights, wings, bonnet and bumper improve engine reliability??

It has nothing got to do with which model it is as I think they are all very reliable if looked after but you have to ask yourself, what high preformance car is reliable at 10 years old?

A lot of classic shape imprezas have had engine rebuilds because they are old and have many miles on them now , just like the bugeye is starting to come to that stage now , then the blob eye will come to that stage and so on.

If you want the most reliable impreza go for as new and as low mileage you can get in a uk spec wrx as this will be the less stressed engine out of all the models because it has the least power. An Sti will have more power but with more power come less reliability and this goes for any make or model car.
 
I agree, i bought the 05 WRX about 4yrs ago and my thinking at the time was to go as new as could afford with low miles. Ended up getting the a UK WRX with 32k miles on the clock after 6 months searching.

Another huge point in this is how that person looks after the car, makes the world of difference!
Dont just run out the door any buy the first one you see, spend the time and research. Will pay off in the long run!
