Yours has been rebuilt Robbie so that would back up my theory

No never rebuilt it's never had that type of work done my car never burns oil it's been to the ring and a track day and I have every confidence in it. I can see both sides of this lads but in my opion it's down to the driving style you can have a newer module but if it's been over revved and driven to hard the car will run into problems that's just not subarus that's all cars so it's all down to the driver

Thanks for all the advice. As a few people said it depends on how well a car has been looked after which would influence what I would buy. Anyway I am in no rush with buying one. I am thinking that I would like a wagon just to be different but they seem to be few and far between in Ireland.

Reliability is down to service history, driver and good/bad modifications. I've owned an STI v3 which was very reliable, until the day the timingbelt broke... but that was not the car's fault, but rather the B:sensored:d who owned it before me and only changed the belt and not the idlers and tensioner! As per other comments: classics are great and even reliable, but are getting older now and of course means one has to budget for certain repairs etc.

If you just want a great reliable daily driver, which will put a smile on your face every time you sit behind the wheel... and don't mind the look of the bug or blob (I had a blob too)... there is GREAT value to be had with bug and blob eye right now - especially when you say you are looking at a wagon!

Also, with a wagon you have a better chance of it having had an easier life. So, to sum up... stock and not modfied is best chance at reliability, along with a big folder showing receipts and history of services and repairs etc - with a good service history you have little or nothing to worry about with a stock WRX or STI, expecially the ones with the EJ20 engine which was in the version 5 onwards. I've seen ones with 200k miles on the original engine without a rebuilt in the Netherlands! :yellowthumb:

i agree with most of the comments in the above statements i have a wagon myself on my second one i have had it 6years and i bought it standard in th uk with one owner and a full dealer service history 72000 miles on it i brought it home fitted sti spec c suspension, polybushed the whole car, exhaust ,fuel pump, induction kit and remap by andyF iv put 110000 miles on it numerous trackdays and 3 trips to the ring and its still goin strong and never had to be touched, before that i had a 97 wrx wagon and when i sold it there was 208000 miles on it and never touched but i always service my cars at 3000 miles with decent oil ,so my advice to you would be if ya want a wagon go to the uk and buy a low mileage wrx wagon the vrt is now low enough due to there age so shouldnt be bad to import service it regularly and you should have a great car for a long time
