impreza STI diesel

I think if its to survive in Ireland it has to happen. I know there was one in england there last year I think a red one and as you would expect it looked no different then the petrol one. I hope they bring them out as I want to drive Impreza for the rest of my days and need new models there for the future. I'd drive one. But then I have gone from an STi to an RX so that doesn't say much. :icon_biggrin:

Stupid focking green party killing everyones fun .....
They're gonna turn every Motorsport paddock into something akin to magherafelt on market day

Is everyone else completely missing the point here .....
The true spirit of enthusiastic driving is completely non existent in diesels .
I know Subaru aren't traditionally the highest revving of engines and most make peak torque by about 6500 rpm , but jesus can you imagine redlining at 4500rpm in something that bears a STI badge .
Its farcical , and goes against everything i believe in when sports cars and diesels are mentioned in the same breath.
This car is squarely aimed at the tossers who will park beside you in your petrol STI and waffle on about MPG and low end torque , whilst totally missing the whole point of sports cars .

dont think were missing the point but in all fairness if the vrt is lower , diesel is cheaper , road tax is cheaper and 300lb/ft of torue is all quite appealing , i think if you cant see diesel as the future you have been wandering around the last few years with your head up your arse to be frank , in all fairness if subaru turn out an sti capable of 30-40 mpg who cares what it runs on , and anyone used to driving a petrol scooby will surely have no problem with such a low red line , as you say the power delivery is low down in the scoobys ,

so basically if i can buy an sti diesel that dont cost me a small fortune on vrt and road tax il happily drive one until i turn into one of those "tossers" that "waffle" on about my diesel powered sti :subaru:

Lad's there's fair arguments on both side's of this topic and everybody is more then entitled to opinion but it already look's as if this thread will become 1 of them "this way, that way" subject's. I hope to able to afford to keep my gas guzzler as long as financialy viable, and would miss it, but then again on the other side more's the point is i feel rather than having a voice to debate petrol lover's opinion it simply won't be heard as it look's like the, if you don't step in line we'll make you attitude will win out. As for me i'll hold out as long as possible before switching to the dark side but won't knock the cost of running a diesel because i can DEFO see myself in one of them!! :subaru:
Sorry about the rant guy's.

I think you are missing the point , and missing it by a country mile . The whole point of such a car as the STi is the sheer spectacle of the thing , the outrageousness of it all , the unwillingness to compromise , the sound and all the fanfare that comes with a turbocharged petrol engine . The feeling you experience as you are pushed into your seat by the rising wall of torque as the revs rise , not the disappointing feeling of running out of steam you get approaching the redline in a diesel .
Im not trying to start an argument about which is better , because we would be here all night debating semantics , but for me , driving is all about satisfying the little child in me .The same little child who played with his dinky toys and model cars , and push cars and go-karts , the child who waited all those years before he was able to drive and be able to afford a nice car , and not once did that child ever aspire to owning a diesel car .
In fact i dare say if i bought one in the morning he would die , and i would view cars as most of the people in this world do , as a means of transport from A to B and thats a day i hope never comes for me .

I agree totally with all of the above and my dream car has always been the sti impreza for all the reasons above , all my point is that weather or not we want , like or need it diesel is the future ,

Having a daily runner Diesel impreza is perfect, as long as you can stillhave a full on petrol yoke for the weekends to go nuts in!!!!
even as a daily runner the diesel still has plenty of poke to scare the tosser commuterin his big bmw hoggin the fast lane!!!!!

I would dearly love an STI but for the kind of driving I do, it would rob me. It's different if you're driving a van or truck all week because you won't really notice high running costs for weekend driving, but as a daily driver, personally speaking, I simply couldnt afford one.
A diesel will never be the same as a petrol but hopefully subaru will continue to develop\tune the diesel to be a reasonable alternative to the petrol STI we have today.

Loads of good points there gentlemen. I find the best compromise is a diesel for everyday driving and the STI for sunny days and weekends. It probably isn't much more expensive than driving an STI fulltime. :dontknow: For anyone that thinks diesels are slow take a drive in a BMW 535d.Its given the boys racers a fright once or twice.

i can see your point and it does kill me to see a diesel sti but it makes sence for subaru to sell it, defenatly in this country anyway, with the price of petrol and car tax.with subaru already after pulling out of the wrc, whats next? they have to make money some how and you could have a petrol sti if you had the money, just like bmw have done for years with there diesel m power cars, some people want the look and some peole want the power, bmw dont care weather some fat sales rep is shiting on about mpg to his mate with the m5 because once they take off at the lights only one of them will be smiling.

one of the reasons i am building a track car is, it is getting harder to have your fun in a car on the road, for a few reasons eg. speed traps, stupidly low speed limites and some really bad drivers out there, i can have all my fun on the track and still be safe getting home in a resonably fast diesel/petrol car that looks great.

i get your point about a "sence of occasion" when you go for a drive but subaru never done that for me, it only ever gave me a right big kick up the arse when i put the foot down, most standard imprezas came with not very nice interiors and no boost guage or big rumble from the exhaust, just a family saloon car that when'nt like the clappers.

try driving a m3 csl or a lancia delta integrale or ferrari and you will feel a "sence of occasion". when you start one of these cars, its like starting a spaceship on wheels, none of them much quicker than a scooby but you have people look at you, with "nice car". not, hes a huddy wearing, ball scratching, drug dealling, dog fighting scooby boy racer just because of the blue with gold wheels and a bonnet vent. i'm a bald 34 year old that still gets called a boy racer because of the car i drive.

dont get my wrong, ill always have a scooby, but I dont get a sence of occasion from them

If drivin a Scooby makes me a Scumbag boy racer with trousers tucked into my socks and hands on my balls all day long...... Then so be it, Ill not change my car just because of what other people think!!!!!
Ill keep my Scooby for the weekends and occasional spin during the week, and if i get a nice lookin "quick enough" diesel Subaru for commutes to and from work and the occasional family spin out somewhere..... then Ill be a happy man!!!

The truth is that Most cars sold these days are small petrol engines or larger diesel engines..... people get cheaper insurance on Diesels, lower tax, and more mpg.....
Of course it makes sense for Subaru as a manufacturer to start turning out the tuned diesel.......

Merc and BMW have done it for long enough.... it surprises me that more of the jap companies arent at it already!!!!

I have to smile. I'm 35 and the last two women i've been out with have called me the same thing. One of them nearly spewed and was hoping no one would see her get in it! I think they think i'm having a mid 30s crisis or something.

There was a while there where I was tempted to put something in the Subaru Parts - wanted section seeking a woman who is sympathetic to subarus.
