Middle Lane Hogs
I know this kind of topic always comes up so sorry in advance, just wondering is there any lads on here around the age of 21 and insured on a wrx??

You've got to love quinn direct!
I just renewed my insurance on a 96 corsa that is in my sister's name, that my other sister drives (named driver on my policy) and I can drive any car I like as long as It's not in my name!
€351
Defo all legit
I started driving like this when I was about 20 and I have always had a full licence
Had a major crash while covered by this!

jasus,i rang quinn direct yesterday to see could i get insured on a wrx and they said no it was to high risk, and im currently insured with quinn..as said here before its prob just the person on the other end of the phone, just want to check insurance before i go look at the car not to waist the garages time..cheers lads

Don't ask them to insure you on it.... just tell em you've bought it and you want to transfer the insurance. I A bit risky to buy a car and then ask em to insure you.... but as i said if you have a policy with em... just transfer your policy onto the WRX... AFAIK they have to by law insure you! This is how I insured my first Scoob... transfered policy from a 1.0lt Micra to an Irish 555GT Turbo.

Good luck!

Yeah, i cuoldn't even get a quote off quinn last year, even though i had an impreza insured with them before, have health and home insurance and my wife is insured with them aswell. Only renewing existing customers in the scooby world ! Got it elsewhere anyway.

This is true. Ive done this every time ive bought a new car, with quinn and never had a problem

It's not just us young lads either!
When my dad took his GTO TT off the road for a while he changed his insurance to Vteck prelude for a while,
Then he went to re-insure his GTO and "NO, we don't insure these cars"!
He's currently insured on a megane that he never drives and drives the GTO with his third party extention!

Does his GTO not need to be covered by a policy under someone elses name so as to cover him under his 3rd party extension Dan?

Definately not! with my or my Dad's quinn policies!
Only single thing is, It has to be owned by someone else!
I was involved in a serious traffic accident (two cars wrote off, two serious injuries and 3 traffic light poles distroyed) while covered like this and there was no problems! Other lads fault by the way, but took two years and a dangerous driving prosicution on him to proove that,
Untill he was prosicuted, It was assumed it was my fault, (being the young lad)

I confirmed this with AXA recently as well but may be different with other companies. Only stipulation in the policy is that the car has to be in someone else's name and they said if the car is uninsured then just take your insurance disc with you as proof of cover.

Only thing is obviously, your pride and joy is not covered if you have an accident so you could end up with a hefty repair bill or having to write the car off. Combine that with the fact that you are not covered for any injuries you sustain and treatment you require and it doesnt really make it worth it IMO. Fully comp is the only way to go

Dan - IMO your taking a big risk insuring cars like that.....
You may be insured for 3rd party but as sweetcakes said your not covered for any of your losses if it's your fault....
I presume your not covered for theft either :dontknow: (and in these times that's something you should have)

Good man alan, I knew i was forgetting something when i posted. You lose everything if the car is stolen, no comeback whatsoever. Not worth it IMO

Dan's car is covered by his wife as its her car, so it is covered for theft, If im not mistaken. I'm sure he'l set me straight if i'm wrong

I'm not talking about Dan's car as it is insured by his wife - I'm talking about you driving a car that not's insured - under your third party extension

Alan

Awh sorry alan, My misunderstanding-
Didn't read it propper

I got in a bit of hassle before doing it, its just it gets confusing and it pisses the fcuk out of the guards but i do think its all legit cause i got away grand at the time just got hassle from guards, so i just got my insurance for the car (Civic at the time) the next day. too save any more annoyance, Now the guards were grand and nice fella's it just took a while too go through all with them, thats what i mean by hassle.

No Probs

I'm sure it is legit - but I think anyone thinking about going down this route should weigh up all the options and see if they can afford NOT to have their pride and joy fully insured

when I got my WRX I went town to Quinn and wanted a quote (was insured on my corsa) but the girls said she won't be able to give me a quote but said:"You bought the car already, didn't you?" - winking at me to tell me say yes  and that's how I got insured on it :D

So as someone said before - tell them you bought the car already! They should insure you! If they don't want to get onto 3 (think it's 3) other insurances - if they refuse to insure you get written refusals and then you can go back to Quinn and they have to insure you :D The price will be a different matter now ....

I need to get that of my chest now - so sorry in advance for rambling of
I always wonder - what does it take or what do you have to do if you wanna change insurance to get a, for example Type R insured! It doesn't seem to matter how long you have your full license or how many years no claims you have - once you tell them what car it is they tell you no - too high risk! Very few insurance company's will quote you! what's the point of having driving experience? Just cause it's a high power car doesn't mean that I'm a high risk on the roads..... :eek7:
