jasus,i rang quinn direct yesterday to see could i get insured on a wrx and they said no it was to high risk, and im currently insured with quinn..as said here before its prob just the person on the other end of the phone, just want to check insurance before i go look at the car not to waist the garages time..cheers lads

when I got my WRX I went town to Quinn and wanted a quote (was insured on my corsa) but the girls said she won't be able to give me a quote but said:"You bought the car already, didn't you?" - winking at me to tell me say yes  and that's how I got insured on it :D

So as someone said before - tell them you bought the car already! They should insure you! If they don't want to get onto 3 (think it's 3) other insurances - if they refuse to insure you get written refusals and then you can go back to Quinn and they have to insure you :D The price will be a different matter now ....

I need to get that of my chest now - so sorry in advance for rambling of
I always wonder - what does it take or what do you have to do if you wanna change insurance to get a, for example Type R insured! It doesn't seem to matter how long you have your full license or how many years no claims you have - once you tell them what car it is they tell you no - too high risk! Very few insurance company's will quote you! what's the point of having driving experience? Just cause it's a high power car doesn't mean that I'm a high risk on the roads..... :eek7:

I changed from a 1.6 Levin to a type R

No difference really, they didnt even ask me had i bought the car yet..they just changed me over and charged me €555 for six months

And no im not making up the 555 part

so if i have insurance on one car, lets say a type r, and my other car is in my partners name with no insurance on it, i can drive it under my insurance on my type r?

if my partner and myself are insured on the type r thats in my name, can she drive the type r and at the same time i drive the other car thats in her name under the type r policy?

Yes you can, if you have a full license and your partners permission

Youd want to check and make sure with your insurance company, but i know on my policy with Quinn i can

Its called "Driving Other Cars"...should be somewhere on your policy docs

as the lads have said above, theres risks involved...but its legal

that would be my understanding also!!!!
:ponder: :ponder:

i personally wouldnt be comfortable driving a car under those circumstances!!!

@ Alan, Mark and Sweetcakes
Obviously driving under third party extension "driving other cars" isn't ideal,
The forester is insured by Anna, fully comp and I'm fully comp on her policy,
I drive the golf (in my Dad's name) and any other car on the third party thing,
But if you want to drive a type r, and the insurance companies want €2000 if they insure you at all,
Then it could be the only affordable option,
Dan

I know exactly what your saying Dan
But all I'm saying is that it may turn out to be more expensive to NOT insure your car fully.

So IMO it's not the way to go..... but each to their own

Alan

same as im insured in my sti type r and im 22 with quinn direct
