Hi all, just thought i'd throw this up 4 discussion or c if anyone else has had similar experience.
I got sent a claim form from my previous insurer, wrightway (thru' first ireland) last friday despite not asking for one. When I contacted them they informed me fbd had made a 3rd party claim against me for about €1300 damage to a '01 golf. I told wrightway there was no way i had been involved in any accident, they could not give me any details of the alleged incident except the womans name & reg of car & the date, feb 6th this year. i signed the claim form stating i had no knowledge of any such incident so am waiting to hear back from them. Could this be a scam or my reg taken down by mistake? Sorry if this is long winded but any advice would b appreciated.

Hello Baz

Just a couple of points I would make..... 1 Contact the insurance company by phone and explain to them that there was absolutely no way in which you were involved in an accident with this vehicle. Find out where the alleged accident was ment to have happened and contact the local garda station to that location and have a chat with them. I got a similar thing back up north a few years ago but was able to proove my car was not in the area. Turned out that whoever was in the accident had writen the details down incorrectly and given my reg instead of the car they collided with.
took 9 months of arguments to get my no claims reinstated

Make it blatantly clear to them not to pay out under any circumstances as you have not been involved in any accident. Ask for the details of the accident and see what they say. Ask them were the police called and ask for a report. As regards to being dodgy, I dunno, anything is possible in this day and age. Ask how she got your insurance details, was it through the police or what? I was gonna throw it out there and say that someone may have copied your reg number and put it on a same coloured car but then how did she get your insurance details? I would need these to be answered asap and you don't want to lose out for something you havent done

Hi Hammie, thanks for reply, have already been on to my insurance & they have very few details to give. They say fbd did not give them any details. Sounds a bit ridiculous to me especially as it supposedly happened back in february, what took so long to make a claim if it was legit.

somthing similar is in the process with me at the moment alledged incident last year on the stillorgan dualler alledgedly i came in contact with a cyclist, while heading towards town at first they gave wrong reg, then an eye witness appeared who happened to be the cyclist's brother alot of suspect statements where made luckily for me my company has good solicitors on it, some scam artist's out there all right :angry1:

That was to be my next port of call.... if FBD cant give proper details and the driver of the other car hasnt come forward before now.... then i recon there is something very very wrong with this story......

Be careful and leave your insurance company under no disillusion you where not in an accident....

Infact.... Put it in an email to them, print the same email and send it to them and to FBD via registered post. Reguest all details of the accident including garda contacted details, and garda on scene details.....

By sending this registered post you then have proof that the letter was sent!!!! They should reply to you sharpish

thanks again 4 all advice, just spoke to insurers again a few minutes ago, they r still waiting on fbd to supply them with their details but I have stressed that i was not involved in any accident.
