Hello lads,

My Girlfriend wants to buy her first car. She has her heart set on a quad light Toyota Celica. 1996 - '97. She has about €1500 to spend on car.

She doesn't want to drive any 1 liter starlets, clios, saxos, fiestas, Micra, Polos, Ka, Seats or peugeots and wants something "sporty".

She is 25, never had insurance before. I've tried 123.ie, chill.ie, its4women.ie, fbd.ie, aviva.ie, quinn direct, zurich and AXA and nobody will quote her on a Celica. ARB want €3500 third party fire and theft on a Celica worth €1500!

Anybody any ideas of other "sporty" looking cars she could consider?

I told her a Subaru Vivio would be perfect for first car but she wants something bigger and "sporty".

Sorry dont know why I have 3 threads on this.
Site not working for me.

Origional mini??
nothing like them, Will ya pick one up for that price??
Also insurance has changed for female drivers, now there is no distinction between female and male since a fella brought the insurance federation to court for discrimination. And WON!!

Mini too small.

I've managed to get quotes on some Hatchback Golfs, Corollas and Opel Tigra. All round €1000 euro for insurance :wall:

Get a micra for her insurance, pop her onto your policy, give her the impreza and you drive her car. problem solved. :new_argue:

Andy

Convince her on something like a MX5 or MR2
both great cars that dont demand alot of driving experience to be safe!!!!
Sporty enough feel with your arse about 6 inches above the tarmac......
and the older MR2's are classic insurance and look cool too

Cant find an MX5 within budget and insurance over €2000 anyway so MX5 ruled out. MX3 also over 2000 on insurance.

No quote on an MR2

has she no named driver experience????
alot of companies give named driver no claims aswell dont forget!!!!!

no named driver experience. Never been on a policy before.

Just had Suzuki Cappuccino pop into my head.....

Anybody know any Suzuki Cappuccinos for sale in Ireland?

They only have 700cc engine...could be onto something here....

buy a micra or something then insure it with quinn and then swap over to a celica , personally i think she wants to run before she can walk and really needs to get experience on the road before buying the celica ,

best of luck with it Andy , you may need it

Exactly Tommy but you know yourself the second I utter those words is the second Im on the couch

Thats kinda the reason i suggested the older MR2 and the MX5
Neither of them are high powered but feel quickish cause youre so close to the ground!!!

little Cappuccinos are great little things and probably ideally suited, but whats the chances of her wanting one?

Suzuki Cappuccino is a turbo tho, so don't think they will want to hear that word for a first timer, and would you want your loved one with no driving experience driving a RWD come winter time??? Tell her to cop on and get real!! no offence but we all had to start somewhere.

Could always go glanza, alot of em come in as non turbos http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2267638

Ok she likes the Suzuki Cappuccino. Insurance is about €987 with chill.ie. But the drawback as mentioned is its RWD. Its only a 700cc engine with 63BHP, cant be that dangerous in the wet/snow can it?

She also likes the Opel Tigra, again insurance around €900. So looking at those now.

All rwd is dangerous when you have no experience mate. Very easy to spin out and with the power to weight that 63hp may as well be a 911 in the snow, and snow seems to be certain now a days. Hard yoke to find for less than 3k too. I was mad to get one a couple of years ago before al the pay cuts had a drive off one about 7 years ago they can be serious fun. Just my opinion man rwd can be very dangerous when someone doesn't know where the power is coming from.

Yes the Cappuccino is rather expensive. '94 going for €3000 :icon_omg:

Looks like an Opel Tigra is a better option. She likes those...but it has to be black

Engine size too big.

Not having any luck with insurance on anything above 1.4 liter.
