Ring them and make sure they'll stand over that quote after you tell them its an import. If you read the stipulations of the online quote it says that the quote is based on the car not being an import. Doesnt make sense seeing as the car can only be an import because it was never available here but just another way of getting out of paying out if you make a claim i suppose :icon_rolleyes:

I got insurance through 123.ie with Zurich for around the same price. Told them it was an import and all and the few mods that were made. Their reply was that it would be up to Zurich if they wanted to take it on or not, which they did no problem.

Just to remind lads
Insure a small car/van ie. 205 or fiesta, 3rd party with quinndirect, If you have a full licence, then you automatically get 3rd party cover on anyone else's car no catches
eg. I drove my first 2 foresters and my golf gti, which were not other wise insured, I was insured on a 205 van for around €400

Dan

The anyone else`s car must be taxed!! and you must insure the car u getting insured on as fully comp to get 3rd party on someone else`s car

According to my insurance documents,
Under my 3rd party, private policy on my 205 van, Because I have a full licence, I have 3rd party cover on any other private motor car, ONLY condition being that the car in question is not in my name! no tax issues, no otherwise insures clauses!
I had a major car crash while driving a freinds car while covered in this exact manor, 2 cars writen off and prosicutions and everything, Insurance was all cool and held up!
Dan

The problem with that is the reason i go comp, if i insure a small car and drive
my scooby on the third party extension and then have an accident witch is my
fault they will pay the third party but not for my scooby and then its back to a
banger + my premium goes up anyway

I'm with axa and have a 3rd party extention that I use for the day to day car (registered in my sisters name) and I can drive that away 3rd party only, no problem as long as its tax'd. I do this because its worth nothing to me. I'm fully comp on the B4 and wouldnt have it any other way, if I crashed or if the car was stolen, then I'd be left with nothing.

What happens when you have an accident or someone comes in the night and sticks your car on the back of a lorry and fooks off. Thats a lot of money to lose. And before people go on about clifford and blackjax and that shite as an excuse, if they really want it they'll come into your house and get the keys regardless of where they are kept. I was reading a thread on SN yesterday where some lads car was robbed, they came into the house in the middle of the night and put a knife to his throat and his wife's throat and demanded the keys and then fooked off with the car. If the car is not insured then you are left with nothing.

bar having an accident though is this ok,,like would you get hastle from the cops over it??

Ye, the coppers would never know any different as your make and model, reg etc would be on the disk/policy papers. It only becomes a prolem once you claim and they refuse to pay out because it is an import.

Just another way for insurance companies to rape you if you have to claim :angry1:

Indeed,
So moral of the story is,
If you want fully comp, go down the proper route
but If you are not going to crash and no one is going to rob your car, then go the cheap 3rd party extention route!

At the end of the day, its up to the individual whether or not they want to take a chance. Its a high risk gamble and if it pays off then great, but just remember, if they want your car badly enough, then they will come in and get it regardless and the owner will be the one to lose out

Try First Ireland, was paying €1800 w/ 2 years ncb with Quinn Direct then had a crash and got a quote from First Ireland for €1700 fully comp w/ 0 years ncb
