I am going to upgrade my car and cant get any to to even get me a quote :new_2gunsfiring_v1: its really getting to me i thought insurance had to quote you by law but all they are saying to me is you have to be 30y old for anything like a golf gti i dont understand it because im driving a legacy so how did anyone get insured did you go to a broker ??? help need cheers From A 24y old Full Lience driver :angry1:

had the same problem only a few weeks ago when changing from 1.6 to an sti. was told they dont insure high powered cars like that, blah blah blah.

went off and bought the car anyway, called back, didnt ask for price, just said i wanted to do permanent transfer and it was no problem at all. transferred straight away and only €200 extra and that was for a serious jump in power.

so i cant see why it would be an issue changing from a legacy to a golf, they can just be sticky wakners sometimes. can depend what mood the person on the end of the fone is in too.

lovely car. not spoilt at that price either. just tell them you want a permanent transfer and they will have to do it.

the worst part is that you wont know untill you've shelled out for the car how much the insurance will cost you.
bit of an issue if you are trying to budget things out but what i would recommend is to go look at the car and if your definatly going with it, call your insurance before you pick it up/pay for it and do the permanent transfer of insurance as if you've already got it in your yard.

that way if its a reasonable price you can go ahead with it and if its crazy money that quickly changes your mind, you can reconsider your options without being caught with a car you cant insure and no market to sell it in. if push comes to shove and you feel you aren't being fairly treated by your insurance company (refusal to transfer insurance or a price for transfer that is as good as refusing) then get onto irish insurance federation for further help and advice on how to proceed. linky: http://www.iif.ie/
