Hi guys

I know the insurance subject was several times already.
I want to insure a Type-R and tried almost everything. The only quote i got was in XS direct -1580 by chill.ie and 1780 by Brittons (both with 4K excess :cuckoo:)
I'm 28 and was told in insure.ie I have to be 30 for that model of car :icon_blahblah:

Do you have any suggestions? maybe a broker? I'm from Cork.

Thanks in advance.

Peter.

They cant descriminate against you by law, if they say you have to be 30 then you simply write them a letter quoting the trade and equality act. ( think thats whats its called) and they will be back onto you pretty quick to quote.

Chris you probably are 100% right, but I don't have time to fight with them. I just don't understand Irish insurers.. Seems like they don't want peoples' money. How can they function? :angry1:
Do you know how much I'm paying in Poland for a 3.0 Mercedes? - equivalent of 170 Euro per year for third party (full NCB) and it's not the cheapest option.
Polish companies fight for customers...

I have 8 years of NCB (proven) Licence since 1997, never crashed etc.

markc: Thanks a lot, I just called them, gave all dets, and I'm going to be called back. fingers crossed. :icon_headbang:

Thanks Johnny I will try them as well..

Just called Chill and what they could do.. is transform 1580 eur and 4000 excess into 2147 and 1000 excess :D all in XS direct...

LOL

Chris, by their nature, every insurance quote given is an act of discrimination i.e. male vs female, 20's vs 30's - that's the way it works!

Also, as far as I know an insurance company doesn't have to quote you! Only exception to this is if you tell them they are insurer of last resort, if you have names of 6 insurers who have refused to quote, then they must quote you.

All the above is a bit hazy - frawls is the man with the facts behind it!

Its all bollox! I changed from an evo 6 to a dc5 type-r a few years ago and the company i was with wouldnt transfer the insurance! They insure evo's and not integras! FFS the evo is 280bhp and the integra is 220! :ponder2:

i have the exact same problem with xs direct direct being the only quote i got. if you didnt get any quotes at all then you would have to get 3 written refusal of cover and bring them to the insurance federation and they would be obliged to get you a quote but they can basically quote what they want, also no insurance company is obliged to give you a quote and as i recently found out an insurance company can decline to renew a policy also, unfortunatly its getting harder and harder to get a competitive quote on high performance cars

What should I do? Stick to XS direct and 1580EUR with 4000excess? :dontknow:

:cuckoo:

If you do go that route I'd only do it for a year. My brother had to go with Britton with that type of excess on his Evo VII but just stayed with them for a year. His broker got him a good quote the year after with the normal €300 excess on it.

Mark, I already tried them. Only half a year ago 123.ie gave me a quote online (I was just trying them at the time and it was quite affordable)... now they "cannot provide a quote".

That's insane.

codder - unfortunately you have to call them, call them and call them again.
Sometimes it seems to be good to call twice the same insurer - the quote may differ even dependantly on agent that speak to you...

And as said above - in the worst case stay with xs direct for a year (britton insurance will put you the most probably also into xs direct, as britton is a broker only) and then try again... hopefully with better luck.

Last time I actually rang around 30 brokers/insurers - this made me go around 700-800e down on the quote...

i'm only off the phone with chill.ie and finalised my transfer from quinn with them

24 with 4 years ncb in a impreza turbo 1161. excess 200

quinn quoted me 1450.

its just ridiculous one person can get this sort off quote and the next is doubled.

did you put your details into chill.ie website or just ring them

Keith I've done both... online and rang them as well.

You see.. This is my first car in Ireland, I've got 8 years proven NCB from Poland (got the documents, translation etc and they accept it) EU drivers licence since 1997, 28 years old, no penalty points.
For now the only option I have is XS direct with 1580 EUR + 4000 excess.. from chill.ie

I think Turbo is much easier to insure than the Type-R. :wall:

No other way as going for XS direct 1580 EUR and... then ... try not to crash :angry1:

Will change it next year for something more sensible.

I don't have time to shop around anymore (about 20 calls done today :hammerhead:)
And need the insurance on Wednesday as heading for Hen's car

Can't wait! :subaru:
