Insure.ie for those over 30?

when your 17, they say you have to be over 21 to insure that car.
when you get to 21, they say you have to be over 25 and so on.

the last time i rang an insurance company ''britton'' years ago.
the one on the phone said ''i wouldnt get insured on a lawnmower''.
and she was serious

thank god thats all i drive now. :049:

Insurance in this country has become a real joke lately. I was checking out renewal quotes for myself earlier and best i could get was €1549. But if i put my mam on the policy too then it was a little under €900!! :ponder2:

I enquired to axa about this and they told me once your over 25, you can put someone else (wife/girlfriend/mam) on the policy and it would be significantly cheaper... If you are under 25 then it increases your premium

A very nice guy at Chill.ie told me that he actually doesn't understand the rules, and it seems like you'd have to be 60 to drive a subaru in Ireland (and keep fainting behind the wheel  ) <- his words.

They cant descriminate against you by law, if they say you have to be 30 then you simply write them a letter quoting the trade and equality act. ( think thats whats its called) and they will be back onto you pretty quick to quote.

Chris, by their nature, every insurance quote given is an act of discrimination i.e. male vs female, 20's vs 30's - that's the way it works!

Also, as far as I know an insurance company doesn't have to quote you! Only exception to this is if you tell them they are insurer of last resort, if you have names of 6 insurers who have refused to quote, then they must quote you.

All the above is a bit hazy - frawls is the man with the facts behind it!

all i know is my mate was told that u have to be 30 to insure that car so he wrote a letter quoting trade and equality act and was phoned back pretty quick with a reasonable quote. :ponder2:

I will surely do it next year Chriss :icon_lol:

I'm just off the call with chill.ie and finalised XS direct insurance deal for 1580 (and feckin 4k excess :icon_hang:).
I'm driving carefully anyway. (on the public roads only :icon_twisted:)

Cheers lads, you were very helpful

I'm only 24 and it still reduced it!! Hard to understand!!

Im 27 and had similar problems insuring my Type R.
Last year i was insured with xsdirect through 123.ie for 1600euro with a 4k excess. Couldnt get quoted anywhere else.
They all told me i had to be 30 too :dontknow:
This year i wanted rid of the 4k excess so i rang around and only britton would insure me but wanted 3200euro.
I rang a friend who works in AXA and i got a quote of 2279euro with a 250 euro excess.
But they even told me they wouldnt usually quote me only for the fact my friend works there.
Its madness :angry1:

Sure when i first went to get insured on a FTO they laughed at me, then turned around and insured me on a STI without hesitation.
