integra type r dc5 ???

the dc5 is a nice car, they are very basic and the seats are only for the skinny ppl :eek7:
my mate has one and he paid mad money for it when ye compare the speed and handling to a scooby. the steering is very heavy in them, ive been told its a comprimise for better handling on the track. they are easy to service and like all hondas have bags of great kit available for them. imo they dont need a 6 speed box and are too uncomfortable for a daily driver but on the plus side they look sweet and have a huge boot for that type of car

the dc5 was only brought out as a jdm spec as honda thouhgt it would take away from the sale of the uk spec civic type r

All Dc5 are jdm only, all have an lsd fitted as standard. Its the pre 04 UK civic type r that doesnt have a lsd as standard.
Very tunable K20 engine and 6spd box, some people like em some dont, comparing a dc2 to a dc5 is like comparing a classic type r impreza to a blob eye.
Dc2 is a raw revy light weight ting where as dc5 is more refined and comfortable, lots of people dont think the vtec hit is as hard as dc2, but that is because on the k20 there is more torque available before vtec than on dc2 so you dont feel as much of a bang off it.
Georgous looking inside and out, arse has falling out of them price wise as there is a big insurance loading i beleive, realistic selling price for a 2001 10 to 12k euro. if you had cash tomorrow you would have no problem in buying one for 10k.. some car for money

I got in a DC 5 back in '05 and swapped it in December for my STI - They are a great quick light car which performs very well - they all come at 200bhp no matter what dealers / import's say not 220++ bhp! You can get about 245bhp out of them by the usual mods ( air filter, exhaust and a hondata k-pro chip e2000! ) They handle well but would not drive them every day - more of a weekend car- maybe im just getting old !. They are great to run due to the K20 engines ( 6 speed gear box ) in them - you get great power and trottle response from it. Not much room in the back seats for a coupe - but plenty of boot room !! I never had any problems with mine - easy & cheap to service - no timing belt only timing chain which is hassle free - just check on oil levels often due to vtec engines use a lot of oil .

I found they are a lot better then a DC2 - there is a nicer sound from the engine in high rev's and also alot faster - There are alot of DC2's knocking around so the DC5 is in a class of it's own - insurance is a bit costly ! My old DC5 was 2002 model and my STI 2001 and i'm e160 cheaper now !! - not sure how the insurance companies worked that out :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

Hope this helps....

Sory stewart, have to contradict you there-all jdm K20A engines are 220bhp standard. Youre right about insurance-I was transferring from an EVO VI to my old DC5 and the brokers refused point blank! And I was 27 with full no claims!

wouldn't that be on 100 octane?

Impreza type r is so much better than the Teg,
I can't think of anything that the teg would do better than a properly maintaned scooby, :dontknow:
I imagen the fuel consumption is pretty bad also,
If he does have a lapse of judgement and get the teg,
I'm told they react very well to Bioethinol E85, breathing mods and remap!
Scooby would still kick it's ass! :subaru: DC5 is pretty though,

turbo should always prevail over natural aspired cars !!!!
cant buy a type r sti and DC5 of the same year!!!
prefer the scooby myself but them dc5's are class looking...

Again there is no such thing as a Uk dc5 so they cant be an octane difference, the pre 04 Uk civic type r were bit shitty, had no lsd and not great cams, and these were the 200bhp k20. after 04 they changed to an lsd and got different cams, not sure if they were as quick as dc5 when they got the cams changed, everyone seems to change the inlet manifold on these for some reason, must be a good upgrade.. your brother isnt working out bad on deal, its insurance that is prob, everyone seems to be wanting rid of dc5 at moment, so if he wants to keep it it good deal if he think it will be easier sell than the v6 sti, he could be wrong :wall:

my mate had his dyno'd at 201 bhp with no mods. they are a killer on the insurence, hes is 30, drivin since 17 and he barely got insured and its over a grand for the year, tried to pursuede him to go for a scooby but went for the more exotic honda instead. with the current climate i can see these cars being bought and sold for little of what there worth and becoming very common on the roads in the future

but with the hondas, you dont get the failures that the scoobies can give which is obviously a big issue when deciding which one to buy!!!
cant see insurance being any bigger an issue for the honda compared to the scooby!!!
the problem with insurance is lots of young fellas dont disclose true information on their car in order to get a quote!!!
as for car values,i think we can all see that what a car fetched in the last 6/8 months, you wont get anywhere near it now....
i'd sell mine tomorrow but put way too much into it for someone to insult me with a price!!!!
sadly gonna be stuck with it now!!!
