Irish 2002 STI vs Japanese 2002 STI

Petrolheads
I'm looking at a trade in of my 99 classic against a 2002 STI.

There's an black Irish one that seems pretty standard and a rally blue Japanese one that has a range of extras.

Any thoughts or advice would be great

Cheers,

P.

Stick up a link to both cars if you have them.

Firstly. Is the JDM one in the country long, Is it ,mapped?

The JDM one if a prodrive style would be the better of the two cars but the irish car wouldn't have any fueling issues etc. It would more then lightly have a full Irish history to.

Both cars are a great buy though and you cann't beat the black bugs.

Hey Eric,

Great minds think alike and I've been making enquires about the mapping on the JDM.

Neither of them have Prodrive markings like yours and in fact they're more like the 02 models introduced around Sept. 01 (ie WRX GDB's).

Unfortunately I don't have any links but both of them are spotless and will be guarunteed no probs thru the dealer I've been with for 6+ years now.

Whoever owned the JDM went to the trouble of having a Clifford G5 fitted thru MDS and I have to say its a pretty neat job well done.

Cheers,

P.

The only thing with the JDM bugs compared to the older classic GC8's was that the ecu had a better adjustment for fuel so it may not have been an issue.

I suppose what really has me jumpy is the thoughts of any major repercussions.

We bought a Mazda Eunos 500 (Xedos 6) years ago and the ecu was faulty on a range of them.

Guess what - the one we had was part of the batch and as an automatic it used to jump from 4th to 2nd and nearly sent the engine thru the bonnet.

Mazda didn't give a toss and we eventually traded it in for next to nothing.

Cheers,

P.

If it was me P I'd go Irish for peace of mind. Plus it's Black.

mine was mapped immediatly after entering the country
and once there mapped properly there shouldnt be any issues
also has clifford fitted very neatly

I would have mensioned your car only he is looking for a trade in on his own. The two he is looking at are in the same garage.

Yeah guys you're right about the black being the stunning choice.

If I've won the lotto this evening then I'll simply buy the RB320 my dealer has to offer.

I've been viewing CopperHead's bugeye as well as Eric's STI for a while now and if only I wouldn't insult you guys with my trade in then I'd have em both.

Anyway in these awkward times it may be prudent to err on the side of caution.

Let's see if I make a birdie or two at the pitch 'n' putt tomorrow to help me decide.

Cheers,

P.

Jap spec for me.

Irish/UK have power delivery 60/40 in favour of the front on those models I believe, japs are 60/40 rear bias. Will make a big difference to handling

I'm not buying the car to sell on but what's the attitude out there towards Japanese imports.

All I know is that it was a bit negative years ago.

Hey Tommy when you say you've got a bit of an obsession with jap cars - is that like a fetish or sorts

Cheers,

P.

I beleave that unless the car is first time reg'd in Ireland it may turn lads away. You would end up having to show that the car was mapped ect.

When I had the STi typeRA it was always in the back of my mind that it was a JDM. Not saying I wouldn't buy a JDM as if I had the money I'd be getting the SpecC from Mick SpecC if he still had has it but I do think people can be put off by the fact.

You've hit the nail on the head Eric.

Obviously they all come from Japan but some are more Irish than others.

Cheers,

P.

Guess what - I went for the JDM - I'm a bit of a sucker for the rally blue

Thanks to one and all for the advice

Anyone know if any of the Irish traders sell the CLIFFORD CAR ALARM CLIFFNET WIZARD KIT for G4 & G5.

Cheers,

P.

Good choice mate, best of luck with her

None of our traders are Clifford agents but most lads here that have Cliffords had them fitted by MDS Ireland, haven't heard any horror storys about them yet so if I needed Clifford I'd be heading to them.
