Jap spec for me.

Irish/UK have power delivery 60/40 in favour of the front on those models I believe, japs are 60/40 rear bias. Will make a big difference to handling

Is this for all models??

Definitely for bugeye. Irish/UK blobeye too I think up until late '04 when wider track & DCCD was fitted. Could be wrong about the blobeye though, I'll have a nosey around & see if thats right.

I would imagine its a DB9 connector to USB cable for your laptop???

It says DB9 connector on their website.

So basically the DB9 connector is a serial lead for a computer.

If that's the case then I should have one lying around in work.

Cheers,

P.

you might need a USB to serial adapter to be able to connect it to laptop if it has db9 connectors at both ends. Where would one find the serial port in the car?

It is usually placed under the drivers seat with a Clifford install. Has been in my last two cars anyway.

Would the traders keep records of the cars that the've mapped.

I suspect that my new JDM has been done but I want to try and trace the details.

Obviously this is pretty important both from the perspective of looking after the car as well as looking after my pocket.

Cheers,

P.

no harm in giving the traders the reg, im sure they keep track of cars they have mapped. If it was mapped outside Ireland though you may have a problem. Easiest way is to get a mapper(probably charger an hours labour maybe) to hook up their laptop to it on the next mapping session and see whats there. What makes you think it was mapped already?

why dont you put up pictures or a link to the car and someone might know it?

why do you think its mapped?

AFAIK she's been in the country since Sept 2007 and there's only been one owner. In turn they put a fairly decent Clifford alarm into her.

I suppose its possible that they were puting E5 in for more than a year and a half but I hope its mapped instead.

Previously E P Mooney sold the car and have indicated that she's spot on and are trying to chase up any documentation on her.

Also there was an ISDC application form in the glove box which makes me think that there's a possibility that it was a member's car.

Furthermore it has MDS Ireland decals here all around so maybe that's the link.

Here's a quick shot just taken:

Would it be worth it to buy a tactrix cable and do a ECU Flash myself. It sounds like the kinda thing guys do in the US a lot.

In turn I'd have the harness and software to be able to carry out regular tuning tweaks without the big outgoings.

IMO €850+ is pretty pricey given the state of the economy and all that.

Cheers, P.

even if shes not mapped just run her on e5 and some booster and she will be grand or

just get one of the traders to see is she mapped or not

the american ecu's are different i think they use a cobb access port and load pre-designed maps onto it depending on what stage your at. I wouldnt go trying to flash things yourself, as you could make your car go boom!!

Thanks lads for the feedback - its very much appreciated.

East Coast Customs offer a safety check on a rolling road with graph print out etc. for £50.

They also talk about using EcuFlash with the standard scooby ECU and carrying out diagnostics thru the OBDII for half the price of the add-on ECU remaps.

Don't get me wrong I heed the warning - but its not rocket science and the lads in the states talk about this like its a weekend hobby.

Cheers, P.

i for one would never attempt to map a car myself
theres a reason thet most of the members here got experts from
england to do it, and from what i can assertain its not a job for the weekend enthusiast
just my 2 cents

Not sure whereabouts in the country you're living mate but Couture would also offer the same sercive that East Coast offer. Couture are in Meath so might be handier than driving up north.

Yeah guess you're right - I'll probably pay the expert rather than end up with some messey DIY.

Cheers for the info, I'll check out Couture to get myself sorted.

Just one other question - the max on the JDM's speedo is 180 km/h.

If I reach the max am I restricted or will it keep going.

If it is restricted would it only be because of the speedo or is there some additional limiter.

Furthermore if it was only the speedo could I replace it with one from Ireland and get all that I want.

Cheers, P.
