Irish Fuel and V2 gc8

Hi guys. This is my 2nd v2 impreza. The last one I had the engine went and had to be rebuild and then I sold it. Though given my love for them, I recently purchased a v2 Sti. The car is pretty standard though I can't help but worry the same might happen again with the engine running lean. With the Irish fuel being 95 Ron doesn't help the situation I suppose. So I'm wondering what lads are doing to keep they're V1/v2's healthy in this climate given they can't be mapped.arr there any petrol station at all doing 98 ron? Maybe a link ecu would be the way to go, -though quite expensive. Any tips or ideas for peace of mind? For the meantime, I'm adding octane booster and not pushing it on as much as I'd like to. Welcome along man, is it freshly imported?
Either way, prob best get it mapped anyway for irish fuel. Japan is 105 octane I think, and Ireland 95, albeit some mappers say closer to 92.
Lot of lads have went for Link ECU setups, yes pricey, but to be fair, probably one of the best you can get at the moment. AP in Galway is a retailer for them, he could supply, fit and map it for you. Tough to get in touch with him tho. Never had classic myself so some lads will be on with their experience and advice 👌

Hi Eoin. It was in the UK for several years then in the North about 6 months before I brought it down recently. So not sure what history is on in terms of fueling. I'm pretty certain these can't be mapped without an updated ECU. So be great to hear what lads have done. Maybe the link ecu is the way forward once I get the funds up 👍
 
I've my RA on a Link and mapped for E10, was on booster for a while, but a pain tbh. Will do the same with my 555 for peace of mind.
 
I’ve a Link ECU mapped for the same fuel as the lawnmower. Wasn’t interested in messing around with adding this and that. Was done by AP in Galway and was worth the trip and wait
 
There was no high octane fuel in Japan when the early cars were first released so if its still on its original ECU then technically you don't need to map it.
I ran my first V2 for three years with no mapping with no issues. I have no doubt the current Irish fuel is worse than even fuel was in Japan 30 years ago.
However if you can afford it I would advise going to AP for a Link and a map as it transformed my current V2.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely be thinking along those lines alright. For now I'll have to keep booster until I get the funds.

No problem. I remember again with first V2 I put in booster and all I found was that it was way worse economy and no real gain power wise so i stopped. I was using it as a daily that time.
Just went to as reliable a petrol station that I knew of that was Maxol. Stayed clear of Applegreen.
 
Peter Simmons can map ESL, he is based in Belfast. Nothing fancy like Link, but will allow a tweak of fueling etc for 95 fuel.
Let me know if you want his details, he is fairly flexible and normally great communication

He also comes down to Joe Gallagher in Tipperary for mapping

Thanks for the info. I've already been in touch. I'm just trying to get hold of an ESL board now 👍👍
