Hi sold my gti golf and thinking of going back into 4wd. my heart says escort cossie but dony wanna be buying a share into local mechanics with it!!! so head is telling me go back to a scooby. i like the look of the wr1 and 316bhp with a 0-60 time of 4.25 it ticks all the right boxes. my mate has v8 sti and its very impressive so with extra 40bhp in wr1 it must be crazy. just wondering has anyone got one or had or driven one and what they thought. also the p1 i think is another option so any views on that either

Ya they seem the real deal but gonna buy across the pond and hopefully customs will not catch me for while. seems to be good ones going for 15 sterling

if the good enough for Solberg there good enough for everybody! :D

Ya he has number 000 apparently !!! mr hollywood himself . a legend. pity they didnt honour McRae with a car as good

back then i suppose it was decent, and was an english spec car too, they only had the 'turbo 2000' at the time as far as i can remember. times are changing though, now england has a Wrx and a Wrx Sti, only right that Peters car was something special

Ya petter deserved a good car. i cant imagine sales of new impreza holdng. personally i think they ruined the scooby and it makes the bug eye look like jessica alba!!!!!!

the wr1 is a rockin car... :worship: :worship:
love the ice blue colour
hard to find in this country though...
good luck with the search

run a search in the forum, there is alooooooooot of reading material and alooooooooooot of discussions on the latest car! makes for a damn good read :D

Hi

I currently have the WR1...and did intend to change shortly....but cannot see me going for the new model...haven't actually seen one yet other than the standard one..It did take me some time to get used to the WR1 as it is totally different to the previous car I had the P1......while I now love it I would think the P1 was a better car.....certainly I had more confidence in driving it quickly......However the WR1 is a better everyday car...its going to be a problem replacing it.....

BTW i once left Sligo at 9.40pm and was in Dublin at 11pm...back around 1995 when the roads were not good.....in a 4 x 4 Calibra Turbo.....some machine that was...

Ken

pretty impressive time i done sligo-tallaght in 2 hours and thought that was good..thats averageing 107kmph..and i was flat out down the Kinegad by-pass..you averaged 158kmph(100pmh!)

Fair play Ken, thats a fairly honest review you've given just there.

Personally I love the way the WR1 looks & the fact that it does have 320bhp straight out of the box.

But your comments do reflect the general consensus that an 05 STi would be a better buy. They changed the front diff in the 05 models which made them a much better handling car. And the money you save by not buying the WR1 can be spent on mods to bring power up to 320+ anyway.

As I said the Calibra was pretty quick....and I did really push it ...as my daughter was in hospital.... I remember thinking I would not like to do that again...also I will never forget taking a chance passing someone in Dublin about half a mile from the hospital and nearly having an accident.....really stupid considering what I had been doing...

Ken

thats serious pedaling in 95 ken, not alot would have been by-passed then either

The Calibra Turbo...was a super car when everything worked..........but it gave me serios grief....it seemed every month some warning light came on.....until eventually during a trip to Mayo and Galway (550 miles approx)..coming back into Maynooth the part that controls the power steering/4 wheel drive system gave up...At the time mine was the only one in the south.....a few in the north and I was told by a garage in Lisburn that this part was replaced F.O.C by Vauxhall regardless of mileage.as it was a fault in all of them..mine was only 1 month outside the guarantee....but good old Arnold O'Byrne at Opel would not replace it for me..he rang me and said it was my problem.and more or less told me to get lost....it would cost 4000 punts approx plus labour I was told..Anyway I bought the part in Lisburn and had my mechanic fit it for about 1 third of the price.....then got rid of it.....and discovered Subaru..........
I even wrote to Arnie...thanking him ..as without his help I may never have discovered a real car.....needless to say I got no reply...

Ken

i wonder why arnold didnt reply..... i had one for 4 years , modified everything i could on it and the only trouble i had was a solenoid valve on the 4x4 system 400punt. i thaught it was the best car ever until i drove a classic turbo.had both for 9 months, took the calibra for a spin and couldnt understand how i ever liked it.everything felt wrong after driving the subaru for a while .the fella that bought mine has put everything back as standard and put it in storage . he reckons they will be a collectors car soon :ponder: ............ so as you say :subaru:

Well after our conversation on the phone....i was obviously unhappy with his attitude to say the least....as he did not seem to understand customer care......Opel were selling lots back then...I made it plain to him that ...although it did not matter to him personally that I would never drive an OPEL again.....I started with a Kadett (2). then Ascona 1.6
followed by a Vectra 2000 (great car)...finally the Calibra..(In our business we also had
at least 10 Opels at various times).....nothing since then I may add...
My Calibra was 93 D 1000....i know soneone in Dublin bought it..

Ken

I googled the emissions of the wr1 and its 257km and once over 225km its 2000 euro !!! to tax............ so if wanna reg it here it would wanna be done before july. i was thinking of leaving it on uk plates anyways but when re-selling it i cant see anyone in south wanting it so its up north or england my only hope !!!
