is the wr1 as good as it looks

looks like take a chance on wr1 and hope to sell it on again still on uk plates or buy and clear a p1. fu#k brian cowan and them shower in the green party, gonna ruin bringing cars back from uk or japan,

i dont think we fully appreciate the old vauxhalls. the calibra/cavalier/astra/nova turbo, gsi, sri, how many of us have owned one. i started off in nova sri and then had gsi cav and to this day its one car i regret selling it and that was moving up to a scooby. scooby was quicker, better handling but just something bout the gsi i loved it. such top end !!!!!

@ the hen ....I know you like the GTI V so I thought you might be interested to know that I saw a VW Golf GTi V riding on 20 inch rims (235 30 ZR 20 P Zero's) with the Version V R32 centre pipes and ful Oettinger Body kit in Ranelagh today. It had northern Ireland plates and full black Nappa Leather interior. It was the best looking GTi I've ever seen but those 20 inch wheels must ruin the ride and making parking a nightmare. Oettinger are a big German tuning firm that do some serious tuning on that VAG 2.0 TFSI engines.

Anyway back to Scoobyland. Do yourself a favour and buy the P1. Its widely regarded as the best Impreza ever. I've owned and driven Impreza turbos since the club was founded in 2000 and the P1 is the one that I loved the most for its power, handling and looks. The WR1 may be slightly quicker according to EVO Magazines test of all the top legendary Scoobies but as an overall owning proposition you'll love the P1 more.

do you know anything about the engine going after 70,000 miles. i was chatting a fella in england and he reckons most need engine rebuilt after 70,000. reckons it happens most p1's. costly job too. personally i think they and wr1 are nicest scooby but the vrt on p1 putting me off slightly. also the escort cossie another option. also was working out could have a very good focus rs 2003 back from uk for 17000 maybe little less. the vrt is only 4400 and they are holding there money well

Nothing seems to hold its value like a classic Ford. Even the Cossies are still big money for their age. The Focus RS is no exception but the fact remains that the present Focus ST is 8 seconds a lap quicker around the Nurburgring.

TBH I have never heard of any issues with the P1's engine. Its essentailly the jap spec V6 Sti reprogrammed by Prodrive so I cant see how it would be singled out for special mention as a weak engine.

The WR1 is a fantastic car but a 05 STI has the improved rear diff and with the PPP puts out the same power plus you dont have to get it on that love it or loathe it pale blue colour.

For a rawer experience the P1 wins hands down but the WR1 probably has the edge in terms of ultimate pace, build quality, refinement and comfort. Whilst the WR1 may technically be a better car the P1 is more than the sum of its parts. It has a "soul" the WR1 doesn't quite have. Its hard to explain. If you can get a drive in both cars that would highlight the differences better than anything you'll read here.
