Lads I have a big problem with her :comp26:

When I press the pedal it's like it cuts power, when the turbo is engaged its worst, loosing power on acceleration and it starts like doing explosions like misfires and shaking...

I changed: spark plugs, leads, air filter and MAF sensor. No luck.

I'm wondering if could be the EGR system, or the coil pack and wondering too if some of you have time to test yours in my car to identify the problem as Im going nuts and I can't take the car to the mechanic till the end of the month (

Its a 1998 UK turbo, any help is much appreciated, is the version that has the coil pack located in the center of the manifold.

Thanks lads.

Alan, no, its not a wheels problem unfortunately it happened before I changed from 16'' to 17'' also..

Definetely is an engine/exhaust/air problem or something :(

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

I dropped a can of STP octane booster a month before this started to happen and filled the tank with maxol E5, when nick-cotoure removed the spark plugs last saturday, there were red we realized that they were red.

I'm thinking now that you mentioned to check the injectors, if that STP octane booster could have damaged the injectors or something.

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

Octane booster wont damage the injectors-the usual culprit is water. and sometimes just wear-like anything else.

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

It started to happen one day after filingl the tank with maxol in a petrol station that I don't trust.. the pump hose was so slow pumping petrol that to fill the tank took me 10 minutes.. I hope that petrol was not infected with water

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

After you swap the coil if it doesnt run right, pull up the injectors and have them flow tested

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

Coil pack replaced... same thing... :comp26: :icon_hang:

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

That sounds like my 96 sti wagon it turned out to be the fuel pump 85.00 yoyos for a walbro pump from renno at streetperformance
I fitted it yesterday and now she is running like a clock

Re: ..it's not the MAF (Help! Please!)

Hi lads,

I have changed the fuel pump without luck. Problem still there.
I found that the computer revealed error 23 and 56. 23 is the MAF which I have replaced, and 56 is the EGR system. Anyway one have any experience with this? I know that there is a valve there that if its opening at the wrong time it could make the cylinder to fail, but, what to check? what to do?

I found in internet a response to a guy that match what Im facing:

Guy with the issue said:

1993 Subaru Impreza has serious "skip" (ie, hesitation), but only after reaching operating temperature (when cold, she runs perfect). Subaru mechanic (1-man shop, fully-equipped, Subarus only)has done: new parts = spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel filter, O2 sensor --- checked the following: ignition coil, ignitor assembly, cam and crank sensors, air flow meter, ignition relay, computer (had a spare), fuel pump relay, throttle-position sensor, thermo sensor, fuel injectors, and found fuel pump pressure at 30-38 lbs (both hot and cold). He feels #2 and #4 cylinders are the culprits. Any ideas ???

Technician repied:
OK. I think you might be having a problem with the egr valve. Have them block the egr port and see if there is any improvement. It may not be the egr valve specificly causing the problem. Might be the vaccum solinoid which I believe is thermal operated on the older models. The thing is I memory serves me right the egr is on the cylinder head for #2 and #4. If it is sticking open or getting opened at the wrong time this could cause a problem. Give it a shot and let me know!
