JDM Vs UK spec ?

sti bob

Sunday Drivers
Hi , looking at buying a uk spec my04 .
Also might be having a look at a JDM model of the same year .
Is there much of a difference between the specs ?
Any help would be great.

There is a difference alright.
Twin scroll turbo, diff controller, HID lights, different clocks, im sure there are a couple of others, a quick search on the forum here will see ya right.
I have a type UK 04. Love it. Was originally looking for a jap spec but the right one never came up, when i first saw my current car i bought it without hesitation.
If i was you i would consider both when looking and the right car will come up, whether its UK or Jap.
Hi, Im looking at one tomorrow and the seller suggests the engine is a higher spec on the JDM models over the uk ones ??
Whats different about the clocks apart from been in KMs ?

They glow red when lights on and higher rev limit. UK spec is 7,250 redline - jap is about 7,750-8k redline i think.
The japs have the twin scroll turbo so dont have the subaru burble as they have equal length headers. AFAIK. The twin scroll is a higher spec alright but if car hasnt been maintained or mapped then all of this goes out the window, each car should be viewed on its own merits in regards this.
Stick a link up there to the for sale add.
Cheers for the info.
Ill stick up a link later of the ad .
So the JDMs need to be mapped to irish fuel ?

Well im not 100% sure now with the availability of E5. The UK spec doesnt as standard as its made to run on 98RON. The Jap spec in the newage im not certain what it is set up as standard for.
If the car you are looking at has any mods like de-cat, induction etc, it should be mapped to run properly as it has changed from standard regardless of jap/uk.
Also maintanance is a huge issue with these cars, who serviced it and at what intervals, the usual stuff.
It completely standard and advertised at 300bhp .
Is there ment to be that much of a difference between the uk and JDM is HP ?

Standard its 280bhp, on irish fuel and 8 years later, i wouldnt believe anything like it.
Have you a link to the car?

Sorry guys not much good at posting links up :angry1:

Those pictures show a car with 2 different front bumpers, (same splitter) last one has fogs like a WRX. The clocks are JDM spec alright. Its not 300 BHP as standard. (as above)
Best thing is, go look at it, bring a mechanic/panel beater if you can, if you like it and are happy with it, then buy it.
Dont know the car personally so couldnt say. Pictures/descripion leave alot to be desired i think.

Thats the car alright ...sorry for the poor link !
Only going for a look tomorrow ,have 1 other to look at during the week .
Want to try make sure i choose a good sti .

That could be a great car especially at that price, just keep the above info in mind when looking at it (especially front bumper!) The right car at the right money will come up, alot of lads on here will agree.
Take your time and buy right first time, lots of good cars for sale.
Maintanance and knowledge of it is a massive selling point in Subaru market i think, someone who knows and has an interest in the car will see you right generally.

lad that owns silver one works in CIE on the coast road in clontarf, thats were pics were taken.

dont really know the car but if i were you i would have someone that knows these cars to have a look before buying.

as above only day light pic has no fog covers and all others has at night

the wrx and sti bumpers are the same , its a simple swap from fog lights to fog covers ,

Isn't the UK car a 2.5L while that jap is 2.0L. Might make a difference in taxing the car. Personally prefer the jap models.
