Lads,

Been looking at getting myself a legacy GTB or B4 in the last few days. Just wondering what do I need to do to it to get it safe for the road?

I know they're mapped for 101ron from Japland. Can these be remapped or do I need to get an Apexi power fc?

What is the automatic ones like?

What is the main things that give trouble on these?

Any other advice on buying one??

Alright mate,
I have a 2000 B4 Saloon, manual. Only have it a few months but no problems with it. The B4's are 280 brake standard in Japan and the auto's are 260. Realistically on irish fuel the car wont be reaching these figures but if ran on Maxol E5 and using a booster, NF or Lucas, and a remap the car can be made safe and gain more power. There is'nt an Apexi unit available for the B4's either so Ecutek is the only option. Ive had mine mapped by Bob Rawle from the UK through STi Tuning and Davelegacy on the site. See the traders section in the site to sort out a re-map or get in touch with either Davelegacy or Renno Both will give you advice and im sure some of the more experienced Subaru heads will be along shortly for more Info...
Cheers,
Eli..

As anyone with a legacy will say they're great fun, Nice bit of power for a big car.

They're coming in at 102 ron from japan and then over here being mapped for the e5 plus octane booster.

I have an automatic and love it to bits cause people say the auto's are slow but when you have the power all ye have to do is press your foot down and your away!

Had mine since sept or so and havn't had a problem yet, only from the guards , but mainly my fault!! :nana:

Personally Id buy the manual..no offence to auto owners..but you get more power, more economy plus you get better control of the power..one advantage of the auto has 60% to the rear so slides better but you have no clutch to help you induce it so its cancelled really

i would have said the same on the auto thing but after driving a few im hooked, but it also depends on the car and the legacy being big and comfortable :D :noway: is perfect for auto imo. will be getting a compant car when i get back and am gonna try for an auto

Have mine since april 07 and love it to bits, you shouldnt have any problems with them unless you hurl abuse at it then your looking for trouble!only small bit of trouble i've had is the mass air flow sensor, bout €150 to put right, other than hassle from guards i've had no problems

Cool thanks lads. Looks like I'm gonna get another Legacy to match my 1991 Series one Legacy RS.

I was looking at a few GT-b's and have found a really nice 1997 estate one in the UK. The only thing I'm worried about for this one is the remapping. Are the ECU's in the pre 1998 legacys the same as whats in the impreza's? in the sense that they cannot be mapped ? The reason I ask is that i had a STI a few months ago and had to buy an apexi. Will I be doing a similar job with this one?

Fianlly I noticed in 2 of the replies that the cops give a bit of hassle is this down to the noise of them or just the car???

I havent been looked at twice by the cops since i bought mine, then again its got a standard exhaust.

I've no idea what it is lol only had my car an hour and i was pulled  jus don't do anythin stupid and i reckon you'll be grand

you cant even buy an apexi for pre 98 gt-b's so basically they cant be mapped...but you should be ok to run it on maxol E5(99 ron)...you can get a mines ecu which already has a map on it and can be flashed afaik..get on to www.uklegacy.com more gtb owners on there than you could shake a stick at..use search function everythings been covered..if not friendly lads willing to help

no, when i got mine i didnt have some of the necessery stuff like tax and side lamps were blue so changed everything and and got everything legit and am grand now!!
