Never had a diesel Leggy myself ,but here are some details on the MY08 model.

-Exceptional smoothness, refinement, lightness, rigidity and throttle response
-Low centre-of-gravity coupled with all-wheel drive provides superb handling and stability
-Two-litre horizontally-opposed engine develops 150 Bhp at 3600 Rpm
-Class-leading fuel economy and low emissions
-Outstanding standard equipment includes HID headlamps with pop-out washers, electrically-folding door mirrors, front projector foglamps, CD player with MP3 facility, dual-zone climate control with rear outlets and cruise control
-Standard active front head-restraints, dual-stage front airbags, head and chest-protecting side airbags, curtain airbags and ABS with EBD

As previously discussed, brother in law drives 08 legacy, gearbox was replaced (eventually) after excessive noise, it's now cutting out intermittingly & still to be sorted. He is tending towards a diesel forester next time.

have a 09 Legacy for last 2 yrs. No issues. Put 50,000km on it so far...love the car & engine. Getting approx 43mpg on combined cycle.

Would push high 40's if I wanted but like to drive it. Revs more like a petrol engine than a diesel.

43mpg from diesel? nothing great about that. i wonder would a remap help at all?

Thats the problem with 1st generation engines, i would maybe go for the 2010+ model since its the newer second generation boxer diesel, i think the impreza and forrester diesels had similar issues in some batches

I've had it on long runs get as good as 53mpg once I keep it at about 100kph

Once I start to get back to my daily commute though and driving the short journeys every now & again it drops to about 43mpg

Gonna look at some sort of remap or tuning box next yr once the warranty is done

is there much of a difference between 5 speed and 6 speed in terms of ratios\revs\speed and mpg for the diesel?
