Petrolheads
Just wondering if anyone has had this problem or is it just me..

But the last few weeks when i turn the car at any speed the steering gets lite as if you lose grip or traction

any idea's?

Oh ya.. new tyres in the front (balanced) and "ok" ones on the back..

Have had the new tyres on the front for 2 months this issue started i say about 3 weeks ago.

Car is been serviced tomorrow have a list for him. just wanted to ask this here before i say anything to him tomorrow morning.

Re: losing grip or something...

loose wheel maybe

tyres running in the right direction!!

Re: losing grip or something...

yes they running right direction - wheels all check nuts are fine..

so why all of sudden this...

i will get him to look over the normal stuff i guess make sure nothing is worn.

Re: losing grip or something...

only about 700miles on them (dont really drive lately)... had them for 3/4 months, and then this about 3 weeks ago.. dont think its the tyres..

if the back were too bad would that cause it? but its front that feels like its losing grip

Re: losing grip or something...

Air in the power steering?
Faulty power steering pump?

That would be my first thought!!!!

Re: losing grip or something...

check tyre pressures and adjust.

i find with a new set of eagle F1 asyms (on my 3rd set now) that you have to scrub them in a good bit from new before you get proper grip out of them.
there is always a layer of crap on new tyres that has to be worn off before you get decent grip from them.
go for a good spin over the hills and they should be ok

Re: losing grip or something...

i try 30 and 32 pressure made no difference...

feck i will get him to look it over or even just take her for a drive.

it will ease my mind

Re: losing grip or something...

Once you have a doubt about something it's always worth checking it out!!!!!
Even if it is just for piece of mind

What Graham says...you say you've only covered 400 miles since they were fitted...most likely fairly straight & easy miles too...give them a good workout on dry grippy tarmac.

The set of tyres I have on my car now were fitted in the middle of a rainy period so didn't get the chance to really scrub them in well & it was very noticeable for the first while how much less grip they had.

Re: losing grip or something...

thanks guys.. off i go with the car to get some lovin' in da garage.

Re: losing grip or something...

Might be an idea to look at the front wishbone bushes if nothing else shows up. Foresters go a bit funny like you describe when the inner rear bushes go.

Re: losing grip or something...

left the car off this morning for a few days as i dont use it during the week.. told about the problem and he will check everything for me.

so will let ye know if he does find anything - he did say my back tyres should be changed soon and maybe thats the issue, but either he will look over everything.

Re: losing grip or something...

Hey Aaron I'm was having the same issues the other nite so had a quick look and my arb bushes are worn so gonna stick in some whiteline stuff and see will that make any differences.

Re: losing grip or something...Car is back with UPDATE!

right... all is prefect in the car which is great, nothing worn or needs replacing.
He couldnt get over how prefect she was for a car with 18's on our country roads...

He did all oils and diff's oils too and sparks.

What he has told me is that the outside on the Eagle F1's are worn already - we worked it out they have done about 1000/1100 miles more than i thought
The centre is perfect 90% thread left and the outsides are wearing even.

I run my tyres at 32PSI on the 225/40/R18 as i live on country roads.

He said to lower it to 28/29psi to get more grip but surely if i do that the outsides will wear even more?

Personally 28/29 seems way too low i will break my wheels on these roads.

so should i put it higher or lower?

it all makes sense and why i lose grip when i turn...

So what do i do to get my grip back?

Back tyres are cracked so have they to be changed ASAP and i dont know will i put eagle f1 on, dont know what to do!

Help or advise would be great.

Thanks,
Aaron

Re: losing grip or something...Car is back with UPDATE!

I'd go with what he says!!! At 28/29 psi you will have a more of the tyre touching the ground giving a better more stable footprint!!!!
Also the tyre will flex more allowing more movement before you loose grip thus actually lowering tyre ware and prolonging tyres life!

The tyre won't be soft enough at that pressure to be more prone to damage IMO
