hey lads, hope your all well

advice

So I'm currently in Oz and am acutely aware that next August it will be 2 years since the end of my last insurance policy, and my NCB will expire, this is a bummer as i have a nice round 5 years careful driving under my kilt

Do you know of any ways to negate this? i have an idea of insuring an old number plate thats no longer on the road, like my mums old totalled 1.3 starlet for a few hundred pound, is this legal? are you allowed to do this?

so you know of any other ways??

thanks guys

That's what I'd be doing man sure it's only illegal if your stopped while driving it so I'd rock on :)

will the fact the cars been scrapped and off the road for about 4 years flash up on the insurance system?

yeah i thought that, annoyingly I'm not driving over there at the mo, still plenty of time i suppose maybe,

won't be making taking action until july/august, just trying to fathom a plan

Get put down as named driver on a relatives car. That way when you return you've 5 years no claims under your own policy and whatever amount of years under another policy. Works out the exact same with insurance. When I started out driving I went on my own and built up my own no claims. My best friend went under his parents and now today I have 5 years no claims on my own name and he has 2 and then 3 years named driver and our insurance quotes are always the same.

Yeah it can be a hassle I had to go through the licence system over there and it's a pain in the ar$e.. the insurance however was pittance.. would be much cheaper to inure a Holden corsa or something than in Ireland surely? Do you have an international licence?

I doubt it but obviously up to insurer. I'd say once the insurance company see you didn't have a gap of being off the road, it should be continuous. It'd be worth sending a couple generally enquiry emails to a few insurers and the IIF as well.

Do exactly that buy a banger but that hasnt been written off and recorded with insurance company's, you'll get banger of car and third party insurance for 500 euro roughly, much cheaper option than losing ncb and starting new upon ur return, my brother is in exact same position as you and this is my plan for him, best of luck
