Lost my grumble

I got a 06 STI back box fitted to my 02 JDM Bug Eye and guess what there's no sound.

Any thoughts?

NO sound at all? It might have a control flap in it that muffles sound at low revs..this would be controlled by the ecu.. so your car wouldnt have the servos for it so it could be closed shut? just an idea
 
And is it possible to manually open it so as to get that distinctive grumble back again.

My brother-in-law said that they might be pressing ahead with a noise check in the NCT.

Looks like there is a fine in place in the US for going over a certain db level.

thats strange,i had the standard sti system on mine and it was quiet but ive equal lengths on mine.stuck a prodrive back box on and it was a bit louder.any noticable power loss?
 
Hey sorry for any confusion - I don't mean you can't hear a thing.

Its more a case that its not giving the classic grumble that we all know and luv.

Exhaust leaking maybe :ponder: is the backbox new, if its not new, the baffles in the box could be broken and the wire stuff could be clogging up the backbox and no noise/ blocking some of the gases it happened to my brothers car , i could be wrong though about yours :dontknow:
 
The standard box on my 06 didn't have any major rumble anyway . I put a magnex on it and I love it not too loud but just enough to let the neighbours know your home :icon_biggrin:
 
Think I might leave it alone cause the wife seems pretty happy that its quiet.

Should pass its next NCT even if they do bring in noise levels.

As Alan said very little sound off standard STI backbox on a newage.

I think Fenster has a full decat with a standard STI backbox on his Spec c and he's is quiet.

You dont get that Deep rumble on newage Impreza due to the equal lenght headers anyway :dontknow:

not sure? but not all new age imprezas have equal length manifolds? yes/no? :ponder: i had the standard factory sti system on my spec c and replaced it with a full zero-sports system with hi-flow cat.not much rumble with the equal length manifolds but up around 5000-7500rpm its loud.ive a prodrive back box here for a new age if anyone wants to try it out,only takes a few minutes to change it,may help you diagnose your problem.
 
mine is a 03 twin scroll sti jap with dccd and water spray and has equal lenght headers and any of the uk 03 sti i seen have unequal...... can anyone shed any light on weather mine is standard or not.... that back box is changed to a magnex thats all that is done to it....
