M3 STI comperision

Yea ive had a couple of e36 evos, and couple of e46 m3s and both models will wipe any standard STI over 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile and full run. They are a serious machine, and serious value for money. Bothe the e36 evo and e46 are RESTRICTED to 150mph..., No lag, massive grip, 2wd, big 6 cylinder lump with a Honda Rev limit, Ultimate package really apart from the tax that is.

I agree...They dont feel as fast cause theyre so comfie and the power delivery is so smooth but they can really move..I remember i just sold mine and bought an evo 6 and then got dusted by one on the m50.

i still prefer my scooby though..I found the m3 a bit too refined and i missed the kick off the impreza..But they are good for 165-170 mph in standard form..I hit the limiter in mine once before (on a private road of course) and it was just so stable and felt under stressed..

I wouldnt even feel over cocky pulling up beside an E46 even if i had a Scooby or Evo running near 400... baring in mind they are 1500kg they are well able to shift.

Very similar 1/4 miles times so a 400bhp Impreza should show it a clean pair of heals...I'm not trying to tell you I know you've had both cars but I always think N/A cars feel faster with the quicker throttle response and wider spread of torque.

i really liked e46 m3's at a stage,my leggy smoked one and had nearly 400 brake and a dc5 kept wit one one the m50 so it was a real disappointment bt new one is an animal

Thats my 2 cents, never had an m3 either :subaru:

What ever about your case, no way a DC5 will stay with one, not a hope in hell. Maybe driver wasnt botherd or something, your talking 343 bhp vs 220bhp (bad hp at that)
And with regards you smoking one, i dont know what you call smoking one, but from my experience of them, there is no scooby or evo at under 400 that will smoke em, maybe at that power you may have a 1/4 mile but the m3 will reel em back in.

Cant comment on the M3's but the M5's are a rocket under an armchair! shame they are limited as std!

Dagnut tbh im not going on how they feel as tbh the feel slow really, its only when you line them up beside something its when you see what they really are, for a rwd running that power they are able to find grip even in the wet if you have decent rubber, they have no lag, instant power, right out to the redline, not suffering 4wd drivetrain loss, and almost getting the same grip.

Myself and the woman were just talking the other night and we did a count on the amount of cars ive had, and beleive it or not im up around the 60 mark  some for days, weeks months and few for years, i consider myself to be very open minded when it comes to cars and i dont get hung up on brands, M3s are not a back road car, can be a bit hard, dont like town driving and unfortunetly a lot of Dicheads seem to drive them, tax is crazy..
But there out of the box performance is 2nd to none really, and they dont give trouble.. and also are quite good on Fuel for what they are. To sit in one they are boring, you get a certain amount of push back in seat, but nothing like a turbo. When you drive the ring out of them, you think you are wound out and ready to change gear but a glimpse at rev counter and you discover you have 2k more revs left untill redline ... they really are a fooling machine to drive, and its not untill there beside something you see what they really are..
So dont mind me when i say its Bullshit that a DC5 kept with one, as tbh ive heard all that car park talk before :zzzz:..
I just took a px of an s2000 against my 03 m3. And after all the hipe about the S2000, its like driving a Glanza compared to M3

Just one video i found on You tube, i know theres loads where m3s win and loose, but i thought this one shos best what i am on about with the m3, look at the ground it pulls

Wouldn believe that dc5 story at all. Out of curiousty was the 400bhp b4 White with gold grid wheels with a polished lip

I don't disagree Ken I was very close to signing for one about 10 months ago.... steel CS model, absolute peach I love um but I don't think they are a match for a 400bhp car at the same weight... especially with the torque differences as well...yes it pulls ground on that STI but most of that is down to the SMG gearbox....look at the gap it pulls on the shift..you can see the STI lurch the M3 is seamless

Having owned a very clean E36 evo for over 3years I'd have to
Say my spec c would make a holy show of it,even over a
1/4 mile.
Fantastic cars and I really want one again but the tax is a no go.

The dc5 story I don't believe having put manners on a few before in my M3.
It all depends on who's steering the M3 in all these storys.
Most lads don't drive the bag out of them at all.

Maybe you only think that because your out of one, put them beside each other and if your spec c isnt big bhp it will be the opposite way around i would think...
Wish i had of kept the e46 now, and we all could have met up

well he pulled away a bit from dc5 but was expecting a lot more, maybe smoked is a bit of a strong word with my legacy but from 60mph up to about 150 i was a good bit ahead of him, this was racing on a french motor way :subaru:

no judging by the noise of his after market pipes he had to have been geein it but suppose you never know..not saying its a bad car but wud take a subaru allday long, new m3 totally different story!!

Ive had 3 imprezas and an evo 6..all fairly standard apart from a decat and map etc...The M3 was more than a match for them..standard sti imprezas are a bit sh*t when it comes to mid range power..the 4wd can kill them a bit IMO..M3 on the other hand just keeps reving all the way to the redline..On the motorway they are very fast..

when i had mine i had a good race with an sti type r down some back roads and stuck to his bumper all the way..

i dont know ken,i still reckon the spec c would take the M3.
i crawled all over the back of an E46 csl for 8 laps on the inter in mondello,he was a very tidy driver now in fairness to him and kept me at bay.
the cheating fecker had R888's though and i only had used RE070's.

the only way an M3 would walk an impreza is on motorway.mine was some machine to go over the 100mph,pulled like a train to 155mph in 5th.the 6th gear wasnt even needed for flat out speed.
still love them and want one and then there is the E30..................... :icon_pray:
