M50 speed limit

Fozzybear

Sunday Drivers
Went up to get tweaked by JGM this morning which took me up the N11, M11, M50 and then the M1. What's the bloo*y story with the 100Km/h spped limit from Sandyford going North all the way to the M1? All road works are now finished and it's three lanes for fu*ks sake :cuckoo:. I can understand the south end of the M1 is restricted going North because of the road works but the rest of it? :mooner:

JGM made my Forester go like sh*t off a shovel so it was worth the delays. (Today is my day to use expletives)

I think Hammie is the best to explain this but it hasn't something to do with it being a national road and not a motorway.

because its 3 lanes most of the way and 4 in some, they deem it to be a carriage way now and not a motorway so, they lowered the limit because of the extra lanes and more vehicle changing lanes etc or some bull sh*t like that

I'll give you a full explanation when I get home tonight

Basics of it are: M50 is not a normal motorway it's an urban motorway
An the width of the hard shoulder is too narrow for it to be considered as a fully fledged motorway!

I asked this question before and the answer I will give you came straight from the NRA representative and council representatives at the meeting!

sure whenever im on that road its hard to do 100k no matter wat car u drive since no1 else on the m50 obeys the speed limit

I think that's one of the things that bothers me Sweetcakes. The M50 has been under construction or upgrading for over 10 years and people do exceed the posted limits and I'm wondering now, seeing as there are two fixed camera gantries plus the mobile cameras, if re-classifying the road and thus the speed limit is to take in revenue from speeding fines. I did notice the traffic dropped to just below 100k in all lanes coming up to the camera gantry about a mile south of the Tallaght turn off heading north but even after that, I didn't notice anyone in the outside lane doing 120k. It seems a waste of money to me to have this high quality road finally finished, and now to impose this unnecesary speed restriction :cuckoo:

I can understand the limit of 100 in certain areas like where an off-ramp is followed closely by an on-ramp but on the open stretches it should be 120.. Everybody knows where the camera are being placed so everyone is slowing down for them... Typically they are on the most open stretches of the M50 :icon_rolleyes: ... The mobile camera vans won't be on the M50 as its not listed as part of their area.. The guards will still be sitting on it every so often in sly little positions with the gun out the side window :icon_evil:
