Sunday Drivers
i have a 1.6 impreza and its only front wheel drive. if i get a rear axle, diff and 4wd gearbox cud i just take out the front drives and use drive it as a rwd??????

out of curiosity froggy

what sort of money would sumit like that cost?
No interest in doing it.... just curious

it came as a gearbox,2 hubs and a rear diff, like a proper diff,600euro for the whole lot,the front diff seems to be locked up or something, was in that rough oul mcrae, the one for 6k on donedeal, think theres a post on it some where here

To do it properly you need to open the gearbox and weld up the front diff, then all power will be sent to the rear

A lot of effort IMO

ya i no it wud be alot efort but im only 18 and iv to start of insurence again. i used to have a e30 before and i love rwd but i wont be able to insure another one so thats wy i want to make the subaru rwd and it will increase the value of the car. the reason it wud increase the value is because the car looks well.
heres a pic of the car

If your tryin to increase the value of the car ya are goin the wrong way fella....
Im 27 and have been modifyin cars for the last 10 years... I have never managed to get any of the money back that i put into a car.....
Being honest your going to be better off savid a few quid and just makin best of what ya got at the moment in my honest opinion. Not everyone is going to want a RWD Scooby so when ya decide to sell up your going to really limit the market your selling too.......
(I have learnt this the hard way wit things i done in the past....)

BTW thats not a bad lookin motor ya have fella....

No one is gonna want a 1.6 rwd Scooby..I'll be blunt with ya now. It won't have the power to get the ar$e out, it will lose more power throw the transmission, the balance of the car, reliabilty will be unproven.

i no where year comin from but like id probly be able to swop it wit someting beter if it was rwd and for a some 17 year old with dadys money to be spendin they wud like a rwd and the look of the car.
im not defo goin to do it i just want to no hw much work it wud be and all that it was just an idea. if im goin doin it i wont be doing it till the summer cous im doin the leavin cert and dont have the money to do it now
and it wud be mad enough to try it just for the crack id do all the work myself so i wont have to be payin for labour and if it dosnt work i can always just change it back

If I was you, I'd go with a 1.6 4 wheel drive turbo conversion.

Cheap on the insurance and would have the power and handling of a 4 wheel drive. Just get a bug eye 1.6 running gear and search the forum for 1.6 turbo, a guy done it before. I'd love to do that as a project. That's much more appealing to anyone wanting to buy their first scooby. But as said above, chances are you'll spend more than you'll get back on the re-sale. So either way you'll lose out

it will cost a sh*t load more to make it a turbo. i defo do dat over making it rwd its jst rwd is not that dear to do and its difrent.
im not tinkin bou the cash price id get its just id swop it for someting beter with it being rwd. it wud be more apealing to young drivers
the car didnt cost much cous i started off wit a corolla and i swopd dat for a e30 and swoped that for the subaru and the corolla didnt cost me dat much.

makin it a turbo could be alot cheaper than ya might think fella!
Second hand standard turbo
second hand standard top mount
etc etc etc

some of the lads have stuff lying around not being used and the traders would be able to source anything else ya might possibly need!

Dont rule it out till ya price it up properly

there are some very very knowledgable people on here that could really help ya save money and build something quite special!

what about piping for the turbo and the oil feed would i not have to do a good bit of work to the block?

Quite the project to take on. It'd be very interesting to see how it
turns out. A fella had a 1.6 turbo conversion wagon on a few months back.
You motors not too bad as it is.
