MAXOL E5

It would be handy to know if all stations are definately stocking E5 now. Heading to Cork on Friday for the weekend and don't fancy having to bring the couple of jerry cans like we usually do!!

All stations below listed as E5 for Cork. I was using the one on Carr's Hill (listed as Ballinrea below) but after they put in new pumps the E5 stickers disappeared and nobody there could tell me if they were still selling E5 or not. (I think this is what Milo is referring to above as well.)

Tivoli should be the handiest one for anyone coming from Dublin - on the way into the city from Dublin side!

My local Maxol in Sallins village had E5 posters out on the road, even though they did not have it in the pumps!
I had it out with the owner, he said that, their are Maxol Garages, and maxol franchised garages, the franchised ones don't have to buy their fuel from maxol,
So often just buy from the cheapest source, so often not 99ron E5

Great to know it's much more widely available now!
And as most people's mobiles can access the web on the move, if we find ourselves in unfimiliar territory, we can log on to Maxol and check that specific garage before filling up!
I would not trust stickers or clueless staff!
Dan

if i was going through a rebuild like yourself id be mapping my car for 95..for the sake of 30 or so bhp...lads in the US run big power on their 91(same as our 95). i wouldn't trust that all maxol fuel was of the same grade

yeah i know!!
maxol near me is 129.9 and maxol naas is 133.9!!!!!! slight difference alright.
the best one though is maxol in sandyford 137.9
so basically from the maxol near me that is 129.9 and a 3 to 5minute drive in the same direction it jumps to 137.9 for the same fuel.
both filling stations are the same size and have very similar shops so overheads cant be that great.
strange isnt it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dontknow:

so basically for a 40litre fill its 3.20euro dearer.so in a month id fill twice a week. thats an extra 24.80 a month if i filled in the dearer place. mad isnt it when you work it out??

I think that E5 is blended locally down south- petrol comes from whitegate and bioethanol from west cork. i actually heard that all major petrol retailers take gasoiline from whitegate and just add their propriety staff in depots- open for correction though

joe o connor in tralee has e5 , hegartys in killarney and has e5 on the pumps and mcroom oils deliver to hegartys they know nothing about e5 so was told, and the proof of it was when i was talking to ed he could not figure why that in hegartys the petrol would drive his knock sensor mad and the tralee petrol is grand in his car

im no expert but if its a jap import..............their fuel is way higher octane in japan compared to ireland,so if its jap im sure common sense would say yeah!

I run mine with 1/3 bottle of NF octane booster per tank of E5,
When I map, I run a half dose of booster, and on track I use a double dose!
I know the sencible thing to do is to map for 95 and then run on E5 for safety, but that's just not me!

Jap petrol is 102ron, so E5 with half a bottle of booster per tank would be jap spec!
Irish car is grand on any pump petrol, I'd use E5 anyway! especially with the hatches!!!
Dan

thanks Dan, i was on to subaru ireland about that issue you told me so the car is going in for the latest software upgrade.

They didnt admit there was a problem but bring in the car for a free upgrade lol

I think that apart from octane number increase adding methanol to fuel also has significant cleaning effect- it is after all quite a lot- 6 pints of 99.9% ethanol per tank in E5. would probably do as good of a job or even better than few tea spoons of detergent. on top of this ethanol would also easily get rid of any moisture/condensation buildup etc. (or take it...)

will this make fuel cheaper as the government cant charge the same excise duty on it.....

Who am i trying to kid, fuckin greens :angry1:
