Mondello today

Bad luck. Doesnt look good. Did you have engine trouble the last time u were there aswell ? You'd be better off getting a track car so if u crash it you have another car to drive day to day
A Classic STI even standard is a fantastic track car! (only criticism is needs more neg camber on front) especially driven the way sti9029 drives his (over the limit most of the time)  some pilot! thanks for the spin!

How do you loose it in mondello? It's like a pseudo track!! I have had a couple of track days there and forget it... Not worth it! 150 euro for 45 minutes?!? You can only enjoy mondello if you have never been on any other tracks.

OMG, Mondello has been described by visiting UK timeattack competitors as one of the most technical tracks they have driven,
I don't think there is one simply corner in mondello, they all have double apex's, elevation chances, Not even the main straight is simple with a kink in the end to unsettle the car just before the braking point for the hairpin at the end of the straight!

I have only required a tow vehicals assistance once, but I tend to be cautious enough! (unlike sti9029) :icon_lol:

Not saying the sti isnt a good track car. Saying the poor lad is probably without a car now till he gets it fixed. Would be better having a car for track and one for normal driving if hes at it regularly  Hope you get yours sorted soon Dan

Well I suppose that would be the sencible way to do it!
God knows I would have saved myself a lot of hassle if i had just used the skyline on track!
Dan

well, forester sti, it is only my opinion... ok mondello is the only track around! But save yourself 2 or 3 track days at mondello and visit spa or the ring. Even anglesey across the pond is more entertaining. I have had some experiences. bmw and mr2 spinning in front of me... even got stuck in the litter(not in the impreza). I know mondello. It can be great, if you have an elise, exige, civic hatch or similar... But losing it on all wheel drive impreza takes quite a bit of work. Unlike you i dont use caution on track. Not as much as i should any way...

@mjrc i'll explain exactly how it happened to put your mind at ease, last bend on the track, came into it flyin,,jacked the handbrake to make a good photo,,monster of a 4wd drift around the bend, kept on the accelerator,,full lock to the left wheels still spinnin and as soon as she caught grip swung the other way and i hadn't a hope of correctin it,,i'm not too bothered cos i've only myself to blame,,i know exactly where i went wrong so hopefully it wont happen again and most importantly i was back on track after 15 mins goin harder than ever and i still drove it home, pain in the hole(literally) but at the end of the day wouldn't it have been worse if i crashed on the way to the track??

@Dan twas a pleasure to have ya in the car and hope i lightened up your rough day a bit with some daft drivin

@kanye i don't drive the car every day but i know what ya mean,,i'd be disgusted if i had nothin to peddle while it was bein fixed!!

Or 3 lads pulling out of the wheel arch like lunatics!

i can vouch for this as i was on pitwall when it happened ,seen it all :icon_omg:, and yeah , would have made a savage vid clip :cuckoo: :049:. fair play for headin back out on track with the same"flat out attitude,
:icon_headbang:
and u made up half lap on legnum with about 10 mins to go , good battle :subaru: :subaru: :subaru:

thats me in passenger of white legnum(cheers dan)

lads how hards it driving a wagon on a track day?

Dan i know the vr4 has ayc so it should cope with the corners but not to sure
bout the legacy.
would love to bring my gtb out but dont know if its worth it.

Billy

The auld legnum was no match for the sti! in the corners and on the straights you had me!
Fair play to you, I only got you when you went cross country at one stage, And I very nearly followed you!
And again, huge respect for a pure standard classic sti, Fantasic all round performance out of her!
Dan

To be honest, the single biggest problem with any road car is feckin understeer, the legnum suffered terribly, and the sti slightly less so! but still appearant!
So the single best thing for you to do is get a proper geometry setup, (Jomo) and a rear anti roll bar!
If you are very confident in your abilities, I mean very! pull off your front wheels, and loosen the two 19mm nuts, and rotate the top bolt untill the the top of the disc is as far in as possible, then tighten it all back up!
Don't do this unless you are 110% confident in your abilities, this is way to important to not do properly!

My forester is hardly an ideal track car, but lowering springs, antiroll bar and geometry setup and that's it, I couldn't possibly have her better handling!

On a track you can have a good fun in anything.. if you know the car abilities and can drive it the right way.

the battle with the legnum was the best crack all day,,theres an unreal sound of that legnum too,,even on the incar video ya can hear the rasp of it,,

a set of good tyres makes a huge difference too,,i got a spin in a type r integra with BF goodrichs and my god she was glued to the track!

well later on in the day another one followed in your footsteps, except on the 1st corner of the s's.

This is what i got most of my spins in all day!
