Motor tax, petrol and tolls to increase

Well it wouldn't have taken a genius to figure out that revenue from motor tax was going to fall by introducing the new bands that they did. At the time the greens claimed it would be revenue neutral!! Revenue neutral based on what.....car companies continuing to import "Irish specials" with small engines in big body cars....and people not changing their choice of purchase based on the amount of tax they would pay!!

Of course the whole idea of it was to encourage people to drive "greener" cars so it could never succeed on that count and still be revenue neutral.

IMO what they should have done was created a much greater number of bands A-M instead of A-G, have smaller gaps between them and not have the situation of E class Mercs getting into the 2nd lowest band, or 2 cars that could have a 1g co2/km of a difference having a €1000 difference in road tax.

About as much intelligent thought went into it as went into the design of the new Impreza!!

more crap news.. Think of lads with lorries trying to run them.. if they do this it will just put more people out of work, more people on the dole then so more money needed from somewhere else to fund that..Its just a vicious circle really

This is the worst of it. I used to drive an FM9 tipper in 06-07 and it was brand new. Every second day i had to fill it at a cost of €300. Thats when diesel was about 90c a litre.Theyre putting transport companies to the wall left right and centre. I've even as good as retired my taxi and I've taken a job doin veg deliveries and its my fuel bill thats caused that.
