...3k for repairs, with 2 new doors and your basically gonna need a full respray >>ad 1500 minimum to that....so your going to pump 4.5k into a car not even worth that and you will never sell it on here because everyone knows its been crash repaired.
I'm not sure what you been eating if your listening to your gut and that's the conclusion you've come too.

I fail to understand the logic behind what you've said...
The basis behind your understanding is purely financial- if the same thing happened a new BMW M3 it would be fixed as the car is 'worth' the expense of repair but because it's a 14yr old Impreza it's not?

The car was in an accident, it damaged both sills, both doors and took out most of my bodykit. There is minor damage to the floor where it crumpled upon impact.
ALL damaged parts are now being professionally repaired and/or replaced with genuine Subaru parts and then being sprayed, again, by Subaru.

I'm not fixing it with the hope of selling it here- I'm fixing it because it deserves to be fixed. I don't expect to recover all the money I've put into the car but who does when it comes to these niche machines. As well as that, personally I'd prefer to buy a car that I know has been cared for, regardless of what the problem(s) have been.

Why so harsh Dagnut? :p

Maybe he doesn't intend to sell it at all and wants to keep it. I don't see how it would need a full respray. just the doors and sills.
Jamie from Subaru Breaking Kildare here has about 200 secondhand doors in stock. I'm sure you would find a pair.. maybe even in the same colour lol.

Make sure to use your own glass.. as far as I know Type-Ra has lighter, thinner glass windows than the standard imprezas

doesn't matter if it an M3 or a car stuck together with 3M, if its not worth fixing it's not worth fixing.

Didn't you say it had to straightened on a jig? If its just cosmetic why is it going on a jig?

Legend, thanks for the info! Will call him later.
You're right, it certainly doesn't need a full respray, the paintwork that managed to avoid the impact is fantastic.

I really want to get a standard bodykit for her as well- would be handy if Jamie has the whole lot :)

There is a small kink in the floor where the pole hit.
I'd prefer to have everything sorted rather then fixing the obvious things. She is going for 4 wheel alignment before going on the jig to see if there is actually any major, alignment damage. As it stands she's still driving straight, she still sounds great and she still performs exactly as expected.

What's your definition of not worth fixing? Being able to sell it on for a few quid?
It's not exactly a car that's worth buying if you're worried about spending a few quid on it. Cars like this (and many others) are going to require work, whether it's in the form of a rebuild, turbo, or repair due to an impact. If it's not worth the cost of repair (to you) then so be it but I'm not thinking of how much the car is worth to others when I say that I'm going ahead with fixing the damage. I'm thinking about what she's worth to me.

Its not just cost, its the effective of the damage on the car. Cosmetic is one thing, I wouldn't give a fcuk about cosmetic damage, if the integrity of the chassis has been compromised the car will never be 100%.
But it's up to you of course just expressing an opinion. Like they say opinions are like ar$eholes and idiot cousins, everyone's got one

Think I saw this car at autodepot in walkinstown on Monday. Left the carpark pronto and loud! I was picking up 2 tyres and had a peeps.

Had similar damage caused to a car of mine a few years ago. Again it required two new doors. ( insurance covered it though). It was professionally repaired through a main dealer (all of whom now sub out their work to a panel beater, i guess carroll & roche are the same). Could never get the doors to sit 100% right or the wind noise totally out. Spent the best part of the next 6 months in and out of the garage trying to sort it. The panel beater explained it perfectly to me when he said "Doors on a car were meant to be fitted by robots in factories"....

Like you, I loved the car but unfortunately it was never the same again and had to offload it. :icon_rolleyes:

@axel youre right carroll and roche sub out there body work as they dont do in house panel beating and bodywork, having said that im sure whoever they use are very reputable

Sorry to see your pride and joy damaged and hope you get it sorted soon.

If you want a contact name of a very good body shop who's work is
110% send me a pm.
My next door neighbour is the manager of one of the best in Dublin

ouch, a lot of money to be spent.

at the end of the day its your car,and you can do what you like
reshell or repair, good luck with your decision mate

This is my old car i owned it for 2 years and it was the best car ive ever owned im heartbroken to see it like this as i had been looking for it to pop up for sale again with a view to buying it back as it has a lot of sentimental value to me and my wife who was also gutted when i showed her the pics here is a link to the feature that was done on it and my old for sale thread

TBH i think a lot of the reason you lost control was because the diff was set to fully locked with the diff in that position the outside wheels cant turn faster when cornering making the car a lot harder to control in the 2 years i owned the car even during the bad winters i never had any need to use more than a notch or 2 of diff lock with the diff fully locked the car could be quite twitchy especially on tarmac
I am sorry this has happened to you and hope you get sorted but if you decide not to fix it and move it on or even if you sell it on in the future please let me know first as i still do have an interest in buying it back and just out of curiosity where did you see the car for sale as i say i have been keeping an eye out for it and i missed it popping back up for sale

It's ok to have the diff locked on slippery surface... It likes going sideways very much... so the trick is not to panic :icon_lol:

It does like going sideways very much but if you dont know the car it can surprise you and be very unforgiving for any mistakes i think id owned it for a couple of months before i started experimenting with it just to get used to it first

Hi Paul,

Sorry, I've no signal at all in my house.
I'll mail you tomorrow ;)

Honestly she won't be for sale for a while. I will be fixing her (she's already booked in for extensive repair on Monday) so you really don't need to worry about her rotting away or anything like that ;)

I understand the attachment you guys have, I'm the same with allot of my old machines.

It was advertised in the rally car section on DoneDeal ;) Was delighted to spot it.

You will be happy to see the progress over the next couple of weeks. I'll keep you well informed and will happily gice you first refusal if I ever decide to sell her.

What a shame to see the damage. Fair play to you for trying to keep it original as possible.
Diif locked up is probably what caught out your unwary family petrolheasd.
Your paint code should be under the bonnet on vin plate passenger strut area.
Keep a blog and keep us posted of the progress. It will serve you well, if in the future you can show the expert repair that was undertaken. :subaru:

If its 74f there are 4 shades I got full respray lately there is a massive difference in shades when on the car

Car was dropped off to Carroll & Roche this morning :mechanic:

I'm heading out to Jamie tomorrow to collect two doors and a standard V5/6 bodykit.
I'll be holding onto the aftermarket front and back bumpers but for now I really want her back to standard :)

Fingers crossed all goes well. Should have her back over the next week or so :) :)

Thanks for all the advice guys!
