put some brembos on the car over the weekend went to finish up and bleed them got to the last bleed nipple and the threads on the caliper are torn to bits :angry1: what do i do now?i went through alot to get them and put them on and i dont wana put the old ones back on.can i re thread the calliper or is it fu*$ed?cheers for any advice u lads can give!

If you managed to strip the threads then it must be quite a soft metal-should be easy enough the re-thread

If you have completely stripped them then you'll have to re-thread them with a larger thread which means finding a larger bleed nipple with larger thread which could be hard to source.

there is a good few sizes available in nipples, there is the monkeys thumbs, and the jam pot lid flat ones :) etc etc
You will need to take the caliper off and get it to an engineering shop, they might get to use a heli coil or if not may have to re thread to a nipple thats next size up from yours.
I wouldnt try to fix this yourself, as you dont want the nipple to burst out under braking

wel went up to westward lastnite and he said he cant do anything tot an engineer would be able to sort it but i guess not!so plan b im goin to tap a small bolt in and braze some aluminium into the hole and when it comes to bleeding it i will do it threw the brake feed bolt.this is such a stupid lil problem that has takin the car off the road for the past 4 days wreck the head :angry1:

Sorry to say this... but your caliper won't bleed if you do it do what you're planning as the air in it will be at the bleed nipple as it's higher and you'll effectively only be bleeding the lines and not caliper... the outcome of which could leave a soft peddle and imbalanced brakes.

ye but it has 2 bleed nipples on the top of each set of pistons il only be blocking 1!i cant think of any other possible safe way of doing this, the re threading and fitment of a new bleed nipple was my first idea but i was told it would be unsafe so this is plan b.any1 else have any better ideas? i realy have to get this on the car cheers!

One bleed is for one set of pistons... and the other for the far side. This means you'll only bleed one side and if there is air in the other side you've blocked off, then you'll end up with an imbalance in the piston movement... uneven pad /disc wear and still a soft peddle.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but I'd rather point out this i before you braze anything on the caliper. I still reckon the re-thread and larger bleed nipple is a better idea and if done right would be as safe as the original.

get in touch with Brembo themselves....

Id say they have come across this problem a thousand times!!!!!
They will be able to tell you whats safe and whats not!!!!

Bigger bleed nipple sounds like the only job (imo) but that could cause its own issues down the line

cheers lads for the advice, the reason for the brazing idea is that ive seen brembos split open for powder coating and there is a tunnel linking the two sides of the caliper and standard 4 pot subaru brakes have only 1 bleed nipple so ud think the same principal applies??

surely there wouldnt be 2 bleed nipples if Brembo thought there wasnt need for it!!!!!

Companies like brembo (that size of company) arent known for over engineering their products.....
they only do whats necessary

If the tunnel links at the bottom it's to pass the fluid between each side... but if the tunnel doesn't pass between the two sides at the top were the air will get trapped higher up, then there is no way to bleed out the side you braze up.

Subaru 4 pots have a channel passing through at the top AFAIK. The two bleed nipples on the Brembos... would imply they don't. I may be wrong... and for your sake I hope I am!

Hpe you get this sorted.

Problem you are encountering is that no one will want to do this job for you as they afraid they could be held liable if anything happens, there is no problem in the doing the fix, dont think any business will do it for you. Maybe Brembo will supply a caliper half but if there anything like AP, you will buy a full set as cheap.

ye your right jamie looked round the web and found out the tunnel between each side is at the bottom which sucks!i got larger bleed nipples earlier but do u think i could find the rite size tap not a hope im looking for size m10*1 all i could find was m10*1.5.i think this is just not ment to be :icon_hang: anyone want to donate a driver side brembo??

m10 seems huge, are you sure thats right? the 1 and 1.5 are the pitch of threads i tink.
Where are you based? and where you buy calipers from?

ye thats the size of the new bleed nipple i got and it looks the same size as the old 1 so mite even need a bigger 1!based in kildare, got them of froggy the scrappy lad on this site!
