Well after turning down a couple of chances to go to the ring I finally bit the bullet this year and went. I know a few of the lads on here have been a few times but I thought I'd tell my experience as a complete novice. We booked the boat last February and got it for a very reasonable €240. We headed off for Rosslare on the 25th May a Audi S3, a new Golf GTi, VW Scirocco and my Sti.One of the lads had been on it twice before so it was a huge help to the rest of us Had a very rough trip over on boat as the weather was not great but by next morning all was good again. We had planned on heading for the north of Germany but due to a delay getting off boat and motorway roadwork’s getting us slightly lost we lost a couple of hours so we parked up for the night and decided we would head straight for the Ring next day.
We had planned on being there the Saturday but arrived Friday. We stayed in town called Adenau. Our apartment was right beside part of the track so we had a great viewing spots. It worked out great as there as a gt race on most of Saturday. The Ring was open to the public on Saturday evening for a couple of hours and was open all day on Sunday. We went down to ring on the Saturday evening for a look as we had planned on going out the Sunday anyway. To say it was mental was an understatement. It was as if the Ring was never going to be open again ever with the panic to get on. Every make an type of car and driver were there. From family cars to racing cars and the best I seen was a Ford Connect van
. The track was closed quick as we believe there was a crash on it. This did nothing for the nerves for the next day.
We arrived down the next morning for 8 and luckily it was quiet. So off we headed. All I can say is what a buzz it was going around the ring. I got passed by some serious cars on it. A Skyline r35, corvette I did mange to overtake one car a civic type r but who cares. Once you drive it you really appreciate the drivers that can master this track. There is nothing but bends on it up hill, down hill. You drive up a hill and don't know if the next bend is left or right till you’re in it. What a buzz though. I doubt I will ever get the chance to do this trip again but never say never but its great say you actually did it.
The car was great all trip, got full set of brake pads on it new set of tyres and full service before I left. I got the 98 octane petrol over there and the car did 31-33 mpg over the whole trip driving at 80mph solid ahem! Which I thought was something else for an sti.
We headed off from the ring on Sunday and went to Luxembourg .One of the lads that went on trip his brother lives there. We went from there then on to the North of France and visited some of the World War 2 sites along the coast.
Back home now and 1800 miles on the car but every mile was worth it. If any of you guys get the chance to do this trip then jump at it you won’t regret it. As usual I have just attached a very small few pictures from the trip
A picture somewhere in France
4 of us checking the ring out
Cooling down from the track
A few other Impreza's there
A few other cars waiting to go out on track
A nice pic from the Gt race

but it is honestly the best trip that any petrol head can do and a most do for anyone remotely interested in cars ,no playstation can replicate the elevations and bumps that the track has ,did ye stay with eddie ?glad you enjoyed it man ,but believe me you will want to go back ,i remember the first time i went i was grand for a few months after still buzzing from the trip but then i did a track day in mondello and all i could think of was the ring and had to book it again and again it is addictive
