nct emissions fail

had the wagon in for test and it's failed on emissions and i need help!
with a standard catted system and stainless backbox readings are co at low idle .82 and high idle is 6.45 and hc are 254
it has an apexi ecu aswell so i figured it could be the way the fuelling is set with that so i put the standard ecu back in and it's got check engine light on and readings at idle are co 2.21 and high idle is co 1.21 and hc 164 so my co are still failin what do i need to do? possibly other than bring it to someone
 
far as i know it's the cat was on it for it's last nct and aint been on it since

aint distubed the lambda yet but lambda was actually low .82 but it's to be between .97 and 1.03

diptane was the first thing my dad said to me to use in it and I'll be stickin a bottle into it at the weekend!
 
I have diptane here if ya want it, had same problem, turned out centre cat and lambda were gone on mine.
Diptane wont mask either! So before you go wasting €28 on re-tests get under car see if cat has any blows (not always visible) and if lamda is out of range it prob needs replacing, diagostic will show up.
 
well before i put it on i welded anything that looked like a possible place for the cat to leak but didn't take off the heat shields but i can borrow another perfect cat anyway so i might just do that!

another stupid thing was the max 99db level it's over 106 at idle so i need to get a loan of a backbox for a few days!
 
106db at idle??? i find that very hard to believe!!their equipment must not be calibrated properly, they're basically saying your car is as loud as a rock concert or a plane taking off when your car is idling and i highly doubt that :lol: :lol:

its because they do the tests inside a closed area them stupid technicans sud carry out the db test outside the test centre but yeah 106 on idle even inside sounds ridiculous thats louder that most of our cars on full belt :lol:
 
Sure didn't top gear have 3 supercars go full belt down a tunnel with a db meter and the highest they got was 96db :lol:
 
i know sure i cracked up with him over it but he went back and showed me it at idle it was 106.9
i told him to tune it in to 98fm instead but he laughed and told me to drive er on and make it quieter!
I'll bring it into him with the full system back on it after it passes and see whats the reading on it!
