nct fail HID headlight cleaning

gsr owner

Sunday Drivers
Hi All.
I did the Nct earlier this evening, and the car failed for (HID LIGHTS, Mandatory headlight cleaning device not present),
does anyone know what this means ?, where will I get a CLEANING DEVICE, the car is a 2002 Legacy B4 Rev D.
Thanks, Alan

Is car fitted with aftermarket hid kit? Or are there xenon lamps fitted that are not oe to the car, prob easier to remove hid kit if fitted than set up washer, few lads on here had same bother so more answers to follow, new to nct fail list this year, If car had them from new it would have washers in bumper.

They are factory hids on the b4.
Wonder is there any way around it?

Almost sure they are factory fitted, think I remember seeing it said somewhere when I was researching b4 specs.

bug jdm 00-02

blob jdm 02-05

they are failing.

have to get owner get a letter of Subaru Ireland.

I just had a look at the NCT specification book that explains failure types, and in the headlight section it says ( Note 4. HID headlights must be installed as a complete type-approved system. the system will include automatic cleaning.)
I wonder what they mean by AUTOMATIC.
I wonder what my options are now.?
has this happened to any other lads on here.

Even worse than my fail last time for not being able to read the vin because of the strut brace
Meanwhile death traps pass :facepalm

If car came with HIDS as standard you need to contact local Subaru dealer who will get a letter to confirm that car came with Hids as standard without the washer unit. They [Dealer]will need full details on car including engine/chassis numbers as they will only give letter if car is legit. Had similar issue previously. This Suraru letter is acceptable by NCT if Hids were standard on original car.

Well Folks.

I was on to the NCT earlier Today, and they said that from now onwards only a letter from Subaru (not Main Dealer) will be sufficient
for them to pass a car, that has factory fitted HIDs, this letter will have to state VIN number (etc, etc).
I rang Subaru Ireland and explained to them the situation to them, and they were very helpful, the said to E-mail them a copy of the Nct report, and a short cover letter explaining the situation, and include my car details, Vin number etc, and they will send me a letter for the Nct.
Maybe going forward, any of the folks on here that have cars with HIDs, might want to get this letter from Subaru in advane of their Nct, as this will save them having to make an extra trip to the Nct centre.

Thanks for all the Comments folks.

Alan

Just wondering what test centre you used I had my bug jdm with hid lights tested Wednesday morning in naas and not a word. They did fail me on a torn gaiter on the steering rack, is it only some centre's or some testers, were your lenses faded a bit yellowish, maybe that might be it, I buffed mine before test. Just eonderin

Ballymun test centre, no the lenses were not faded or yellow at all, as soon as the guy saw Hid lights, that was that, as far as he was concerned they needed an automatic cleaning device. the Girl I rang in Subaru ireland said, that a couple of people had already rang her over the last few months, looking for letters to say that the HIDs were factory fitted as standard.
