NCT failed on emissions :(

So here it goes...

Had NCT test today and failed on emissions. To be honest I had a hunch about the emissions before the test but previously it passed and it was only in march 2008. Colin, the previous owner told me it should pass no problem.
As far as I know there is decat downpipe in my Type-R BUT the centre section is from type UK and it should have cat on it... ??? :ponder2:

Have no idea where to start, the readings seem to exceed the norms quite a lot.

on idle : CO 7.52 % (norm: up to 0.5)

on 3000rpm : CO 6.85 % (norm: up to 0.3%)
HC 285 ppm (norm: up to 200ppm)

Lambda is showing 0.824 (should be between 0.97 and 1.03)

My question is if its Lambda to be blamed for such high readings ?

there either is or isn't a decat on it, very easy look under and check. Not a hope in hell of it passing with a decat fitted and the fact that you possibly don't have main cat in would burn the c section cat in no time

When i done my test first time i had not changed the decat so i had no cat and failed, the readings are as follows
low idle CO 1.80 vol%
800rpm HC 0 ppm

High idle Lambda 1.001
2900 rpm CO 1.56 vol%
HC 48 ppm

On my return visit this time with standard cated downpipe on are as follows

Low idle CO 0.01 vol%
810 rpm HC 0 ppm

High idle Lambda 1.000
2720 rpm CO 0.16 vol%
HC 9 ppm
So even without a cat my readings were no were near as high as yours witch could point to your lambda being gone and not adjusting the fuel and air mix properly and giving such high readings, the info in the link below helped myself who knows hardly anything about cars understand how the lambda can effect emissions hope that helps sorry about the :icon_blahblah:

ye put in a catted down pipe in and it should change those figures drasticlay, i had a full de-cat system and itt was reading something like that and changed it over and it was grand.
hope that helps a lil bit

meant to say above also that my readings were pretty much the same, turned out my cat was gone so borrowed a down pipe and uk center section and sailed through.

Just got a reply from Mike  who owned my typer before and he told me there is a setting in power FC (o2 sensor function) which should be switched off.
It worked for him last year during NCT test ;) I wished I knew about it yesterday LOL :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

But still it won't change anything about the lambda faulty readings in my opinion, so it needs to be replaced anyway :ponder2:

I'd better visit Mark Murphy for his opinion and maybe the emission test. Damn another expenses while money so tight this month :icon_cry:

Codders - tbh I don't see anything wrong in your lambda readings - if you have too much money you can send me six-pack of bear instead of buying new lambda :)

cheers

Just switch off the o2 sensor function and ask Mark to do an emissions test before spending more money on a Lamba.

Hope ya get sorted

Passed NCT today  YAY

I think the problem was mostly in Lambda wiring.

Just to be safe I borrowed original downpipe with cat from MarkC - BIG THANKS to him by the way,

with 2 cats, new lambda and correct wiring the results were:

Low idle CO 0.16 vol%
870 rpm

High idle Lambda 1.006
2900 rpm CO 0.06 vol%
HC 29 ppm

Makes a difference
