NCT - Handbrake question?

Hey guys,

Have the dreaded NCT Sunday morning for the B4. I noticed today while parked on a hill the car was inclined to roll back and I had to give the handbrake a good pull to keep her there! So now I'm thinking Nct failure!!!

When I pull the handbrake it gets to click number 5 and then tightens. But would take to click 7 or 8 to be good and tight. Should I adjust it etc or how do they measure it?

I tried pulling it to click 8 and driving away, car wouldn't budge... So it's working! Just takes a good strong pull to get it there! Should it be ok? Or will I go adjusting??

id leave it alone man sure it will only be tested with a decelerometer not the rolling road ,mine has about 8-10 click and passed fine
 
because your car is 4x4 they are not allowed to test it in a rolling road brake tester as it can damage the centre diff ,so they use a box with a gauge inside it that they place on the floor and drive the car up the yard and brake to measure deceleration i.e. how fast it stops and thats your brake test its a very simple test to pass
 
I'm always buried in the window, with the nearest entrance to the floor earmarked, making sure some silly ba*tard doesn't run the car on the rollers :argh:
 
10mm nut down the side of handbrake lever give it a couple of turns with lever down to get adjustment there maybe a second 10mm nut on top to lock it which must loosened or removed first.
5 min job if you have socket set
This only adjusts lever travel for correct handbrake adjustment you need to get it off the ground and get at the hubs

I put a sticky note in the steering wheel saying "AWD NO ROLLERS!!!!"
 
I thought about the sticker alright but didnt want to come across to the tester like I thought he was thick! I'm going to wait in the car, keep her running with spare key and when he come out ill say it to him as nice as possible!!!
 
OH MY GOD! I'm in shock!!! So it was you that tested my car!!! Would you believe I only found the masking tape today when I filled her up! I got the grill and the splitter sprayed last week and also got the arches rolled and sprayed inside, so that's where the masking tape came from! Seriously... You could have let me off with the cracked steering rack gaiter! :icon_grin: . Anyway getting one fitted Thursday! So all will be good then! It good the hand brake was ok anyway! Small world!!!
