NCT Query - Spare Wheel...?

Morning All,

Here's the thing... the spare wheel on the back of the other halfs Pajero has no E stamp on it so will probably fail the test... but if I leave the wheel off the back when I bring it down to NCT it... will they fail me.

I gather they can't fail you if it aint there. I've heard of loads of people removing non-working fog lights based on the fact that one was broke and was failed ... so they removed both.

I reckon if there is no spare... they can't fail it!

Anyone any experience with this.???

Cheers,

J..

i dont think its a requirement to have on there. If they cant access it or its not up to sratch i think they will fail you over it!

Why not just bolt on the donut out of the type-r and tell them that your spare  .. they ain't gonna check if it fits

Cheers for comments lads... need to find out if anyone has had car tested without one. I'd be happier going down without one if someone had done the same and had no probs.

Cheers for that Dave. That's the answer I'm looking for.

Gonna tell em if asked... that spare was robbed when imported and that missus doesn't want one as it's too heavy to lift off back of jeep if needed... hence the can of tyre weld in boot!

Sorted! :icon_biggrin:

I am sorry for hijacking thread, but does Irish NCT has special machinery to test brakes of Subaru? I mean those rollers? It is well known, that it is bad for transmission when front (or back) is driven separately. Same as "You can't use recovery truck which uses 'pick up front wheels' and tow" (there are some models which has special fuse to allow towing that way, but not all Subarus have it).

Yes they bring the car to the car park and put a big weight on the passenger seat which has a gauge on it, they then drive up the car park apply the brakes and get a reading from the gauge thats how they test your brakes

He's being serious... they use a G-meter to measure the g-force when the brakes are applied from a certain speed!

My car was put on the rollers last time i didnt realise they werent meant to do this :wall: :wall: thank god no damage was done ill be saying it to them next time

Make sure this isn't done again Paul... it can do serious damage. My first Scoob had brakelines torn on rollers! :angry1:

Are you serious? :ponder: Interesting ;-]
And it doesn't matter what distance car travels after brakes are applied?

So STi or WRX should have higher G force, than other makes. They have some kind of chart to compare it or what? How they know when it's OK and when no...

Never heard of this kind of testing :]

Distance not a factor... it's an accelerometer and just measure the g-force applied from I think a speed of 20mph.

Not the most accurate... as it doesn't give the balance between brakes... but gives an idea of the cars ability to pull up from speed. Subarus I'd assume come out pretty well in these tests compared to most cars as there brakes are generally better than most cars.. so long as there is nothing seroiusly faulty with them.

AFAIK... as long as it reads over a certain 'G'.. it's passed the test. :icon_rolleyes:

I had a spare in my booth for 3 years that didnt fit the car only found out when i got a blow out week after nct and spare wouldnt fit over calipers
never failed on it they just look and pass
and on the rollers they can be muppets i told them not to roll it and yer man said i know i had a legacy so i thought he will take care of it i was outside having a smoke and heard it reving
looked in and it was on the rollers banged the feck outa the glass and he stopped im convinced he fooked up me hand break had to replace the shoes a month later and was a wa***r
when he came out failed me on loads of stuff 12 or 13 things i only changed front drop links brought it back and it passed its a joke.
now i let the blackjax wreck there heads so they have to bring me in there face when they think somthings wrong.

The last time i brought my impreza in for the test i had no spare wheel in the boot but nothing was said about it,
As for this brake test, the last time it was in i seen ya man driving out the door and going up the road, i nearly had a coronary as i taught he was going on a little joyride :angry1: but there supposed to do that i take it???
