Sunday Drivers
Couldn't believe it yesterday. I bought a seat arosa for €300, had the nct last night. Stuck it in with no spare wheel, id say the back tyres weren't matching the front tyres for pressure and you can't get into the back on the drivers side. So I was expecting a fail. Only thing it failed on was a side lamp bulb. I'd be one for fretting over nct, making it 100% and it'll still fail, threw this is in and it's more than less passed.

€55 is an absolute joke btw, I'm all for nct every year for a ten year old car but having to pay €55 is a disgrace. Should be halved.

My last 3-4 cars were all under a grand and when it comes to an NCT
I always prefer to go without touching anything and fix only what they tell me to.
ALWAYS their list is shorter than pre-NCT known to me problems.
Of course this is only worth when the car is less value than potential visit to the garage.

Ah in fairness Andy it keeps some cars in check. Not all as I know engine is real covered by them. Yeah Tommy that's what I was at, but some clear defects it passed on I would have failed it on. Still Im absolutely delighted. €450 I've spent on the car. That's buying it, nct, and taxing it. For run a round til I find a scooby that's great.

The test is rediculous
it doesnt take into account "real situations"
I mean I have seen a car drive out with a test cert.... Door and sill were damaged and had sharp edges exposed (ie. metal was actually torn)
yet my car failed the same test cause my induction kit wasnt secured (also emmisions were off)
they really need to pay more attention to what they are testing...
Cars that are odviously looked after and enjoyed get over scrutinised, faded dirty uncared for cars are allowed to sail thru and defects are ignored!!!

One of my last cars sailed thru with wish bone bushions hanging outta it and drivers seat rail broken (one of the welds snapped meaning the seat rocked by almost an inch)
it was a cheap runaround that i never even bothered to wash before it went in for the test, again i was just going to get myself a "to do" list to get it to pass the test

Mechanics (qualified mechanics) are whats needed to test a car, not a monkey that can read a check list

Sure thats only the half of it, the imbalance test to test the suspension means that you can go in there with 2 perfect shocks and pass. You can go in with 1 new shock and one still in good order shock and fail. Or I know of 1 car that went in with 2 completely busted shocks, but because there was no imbalance, it flew through even though it was a death trap :icon_hang:

Yeah suppose I shouldn't be too shocked. I was expecting a list and a half. My girlfriends first thought was to leg it incase they think something's wrong. Delighted tho. It'll do me for the time being.
