I take it you bought the car knowing there was a bit of trouble with the engine.

As the lads said rebuild would be the best option.

To be honest....
It was driving fine until I put the foot down when it was cold :(
Got it of me brother and never bothered checking for oil. Only had it a day before it happened :(

It struggles to reach 6,000 rpm now, with alot more backfire than usuall.
Is that a common symptom of a big end gone??

One mechanic told me it was tappets, while another told me it was a bent valve, as the sound is coming from the head more-so than the block. (Aparently)

Thanks for all the welcomes :)

Oh, btw lads....
This happens to be the same STI Wagon that Dave over at STi Tuning sold :O

Only copped it looking through the "For Sale" thread :p

hello mate,i had big end failure in my legacy b4,imported a fresh engine block with 72000klm straight from japan, japanesse performance got it for me at 600yo yos which was a fair deal.so all done and engine fitted set me back 1200euro.my advice import a jap engine you wont go wrong.

Welcome along.

Sorry to hear about the motor but hopefully it does not put a damper on owning a scooby.
Get her rebuilt and mapped and you will be loving it in no time.

Thanks for all the welcomes :)
TBH, I don't see her getting fixed anytime soon due to the lack of funding :(

But she'll get there ;)

Well me mate offered me his WRX Impreza for 800 (Entire car, with a bit of front end damage)
I know for a fact the engine is sound due to the fact I hadd driven it meself :)

So could I put the WRX engine into my STi, and just use my original ECU and still keep the same power?? Or are the engine different??
