Hi Paul, I'm a newbie here too and hoping to import shortly myself. Congrats on your new pride and joy, it looks the business! Can't say I'm not just a teensie bit envious!! ... I'd love to get an STi but will probably have to settle for a WRX.

Just a quick question on the VRT rate ... does the online VRT calculator give the actual amount that you have to pay? Or are NCTS/Revenue likely to adjust the charge based on the price you paid for the vehicle?

I can budget for €900-€1,000, which is their on-line estimate. But if turns out I've to pay 36% of the actual purchase price, well that's beyond my reach. Thanks if you can shed any light on this for me.

As far as the vrt goes it's only an estimated price that you get online! The guy in the centre told me that if it was a regular golf or focus that the price would be pretty similar to the quoted price and you can pay there and then but if it's even remotely sporty that that they sent the details to the head office and they make the assessment there and get back to ye within a few days! Currently I'm quoted €2800 for mine so should now by this time next week what the damage is! He did tell me though that he's often seen it workin out less than the online quote!
