Hello Lads,

So if you import a Scooby after July 2008, you will Still be liable for a €2K a year Motor Tax Bill

Cheers,

Michael

No. It says the new system will not apply to the import of pre 2008 cars.

Such pr1cks that all used cars except the highest band 1's are charged the existing rate. Whats the story with mitsi's, honda's etc? Are they in the same emmissions bracket as subaru? If it is, thats the jap import business fooked anyway, either that or every1 will be driving around with no tax

Well the bright side is the already registered IMPREZAS, FORESTERS, LEGACY TURBO MODELS prices will go up and it will be a sellers market.

we'll all :guinness: to that!!!

I'm registering mine tomorrow :smokin:

Cops are taking loads of eng. reg cars in the last week or two :shoot:

heard of cars been taken in galway and castlebar

So if we are all going to be paying 2000 a year because our cars have high emissions then can we all drive around with full decat exhausts seeing that we are paying for it anyway?

Wouldn't it be great if they fixed the fooking roads with this extra cash we will now have to pay out ?
I'm Sh1t sick of paying to get me tracking sorted due to crap road surfaces!! :wall:

I imagine it will all change again before july
With all the flexi fuel cars out there, ie. fords, volvos and saabs there must by a loop hole somewere that would allow us to convert to E85 (104ron ) that's prbably about 30-35bhp extra :D!
I imagine the government could be lobbied to offer incentives to convert high performance cars to e85 in the interests of the enviroment!
Dan

wat u mean? like cheaper tax/possibly a grant for the conversion? dont quote me on this but werent the govt paying the vrt for you on hybrid/biofuel cars a while back?

You see the government are already giving incentives to use bio fuel! traditionally the rate of tax on petrol was determined by the RON, that's why super used tobe so much more expensive! how ever they are not penilising us for the fact that E5 is 99 ron! and there is fook all tax or vrt on flexi fuel cars that run E85
So surely it would it would make sence that they get as many irish cars using E85 (85% of which is Irish produced so good for our economy and not held to ransom by world affairs)
Dan

is this new law in tomorrow....
is it up 6% on the vrt, and 2grand a year tax for a scooby and is it on ALL imports?

It will be up 6% alright for all new subaru imports.

But 2k tax will only be for cars first registered (i.e. brand new) after July 1st, so it would only affect a Subaru coming out of Subaru Japan as a brand new car tomorrow. You'll be able to buy any subaru that has been registered @ the old tax rates.

MINISTER GORMLEY IS A GOBSHI*E THEYLL HAVE MILAGE TAX AND CONGESTION CHARGES NEXT HES A GAS MAN ALL MISTER GREEN ON HIS BICYCLE HE DOESNT MENTION HIS DRIVER WHO FOLLOWS HIM AROUND JUST INCASE
