Got to bring my wifes civic for an nct and just wondering about spare wheel. The boot of the civic has a built in sound system which takes up the whole boot. Is it a legality to have a spare wheel in a car which had one as standard. dont wanna waste 50 quid on it failing on no spare and its alot of work taking the sound system out.

I just contacted the nct customer service to clarify what ye said and they have told me that the spare wheel wont be part of the test if the car doesnt have one. i made her say it again even telling her that the car had one as standard but iv removed it and replaced it with an aerosol inflation can. and once again she said it wont fail without the spare. Many thanks for your replies and we learned something new.

They can fail a spare one tread depth if one is there but if its not there it doesnt matter same as if a baby seat is left in it will be tested to make sure its in right and can fail on it, a tyre fail is a free retest though cos its just a visual mine failed on tyres last time

Hello Richardgills,

I bought a RX-8 a few years ago & it had no spare wheel.

Just a big speaker where the spare should be & a bottle of foam in the tool kit

The car was new, so I cannot see if Mazda did not supply one it would result in a fail :ponder2:

I hope this helps

Cheers,

Michael

my car passed without a spare wheel it also had a child seat which wasnt even given a second glance
