Has anyone heard the ad (I heard it on Q102)
It had a young girl talking (as if she's reading a letter she is writing to her mother)
She says,"I was good and didn't drink all night so I could drive home safely, and I had a great night anyway even though I was just drinking lemonade,
But On the way home someything happened, and now I'm is lying on the road, and I'm very cold, There is a Garda here saying that a drunk young lad caused the accident,
The garda's voice seems so far away, I think I know what's happening to me, And I'm so unprepared, Please put "Daddy's girl" on my grave stone, I wish you were here to hold me mom, I'm so sorry!"

This really got to me! I imagen it gets everyone on some level,
I'm a Daddy, So for me, It made me imagen it was my little girl talking, And that really hit me!

I know most genuine car ethuisiasts like us would never consider drinking and driving, But I thought it important enough just to mention this anyway!
I Hope I have not cause offence by my comments here,
Merry Xmas
Dan

I haven't heard it myself so my comments are based on Dans account of it....

Bit of an irresponsible add to be broadcast to be honest.

What if some poor father is listening and this is his first Christmas without his little girl?

Fair enough the adds are supposed to target certain people but did they consider the impact it might have on recently bereaved parents (particularly at this time of year)?

I suppose you could say that about any of those drink-driving ads, or speed ads. They are there for shock value. Personally I think if it stops even 1 death from a drink driving crash then its worth it. I despise anybody that drink drives, I lost a good friend a few years ago to a drink driver.

I wouldnt take one drink if i was driving. Cause with only one i'd still be shitting it coming up to a check point. I live in town so its different for me i suppose loads of taxi's so i'd never be tempted. Better safe than sorry though

Id say that for people who sadly lost a family member or friend would welcome any ad

that prevents as sti Brian said even one death then it has to be worth it

sometimes it might take a shock ad to put the message across ,it obviously works to an extent

as Dan has come on and posted it up hadnt heard it myself, bereved family members im sure will

never forget their loved ones who sadly lost their lives on our roads weither an ad comes on like this or not

im sure they will know its to prevent another family going through the same pain ... RIP all those who have sadly died on the roads

i hope everyone has a Happy and safe Christmas

I heard this add first last christmas, it really hits home the truth and reality about drink driving. I'm from the country would never consider too drink and drive, I'm 23 and i made the choice too give up drinking so i could drive, but i know plenty of people once the night is over they go straight for the keys, and they'd be as full. if the add can make one of these people too not want there keys then i'm all for it. i also had a friend killed by a drunk driver. And it was at christmas. Very tough time of year too loose someone. Fair play Dan  for bringing it up because it is a very strong topic that unfortunately does not get talked about eough. This forum chat might get another off the road just by one of the public reading our accounts.

havnt heard this radio ad, but i say pair played to the people who do them, the people who have lost someone and want to try and stop it from happening again by telling their story, it must be really hard

i do hope they get thro to some people over christmas

A friend of mine was killed by a drink driver a few years ago and to be honest if these adds save lives then they are a great thing.

A family that has lost a member in this way is already hurting and nothing can be done about that but if the message from these gets through to even one person who other wise would drive and potentionally take a life because of it and saves another family hurt especially at this time of year as it would forever be remembered for that reason then I know that they wouldn't mind hearing these adds................

As Eric says it doesnt take an ad to remind people of a lost loved one. They are usually thinking about them the whole time

Drink driving is one of the most selfish things someone could do. I also despise people that do it...!!!

I'm all for these adds. If they didn't have the shock factor they would not be so effective. As the lads said, if it even changes one persons attitude it's worth while.

Safe driving over the hols boys and girls...!!!
