The EVO Is fundamentaly a bad car! Designed to be a 1.8L big family saloon with very little consideration for the performance car (EVO)
eg. Note in daves picture the intercooler hoses going straight over the engine (bad start) then note the one on the right, It is only 50mm diameter!!! what's the point putting a 75mm exaust system on if al the air has to squeeze through that first??
Also regarding airflow restictions, at the rear end were the exhaust system just before the back box the exhaust pipe bends sharply at 90 deg left that 90deg right all within about 200mm! very restrictive!!! And that's just what we can see!
Also why does the turbo have to work so hard to get 280hp (1.5 bar standard) and ARC (a very respected tuner in japan) reckon the standard intercooler is not up to anything over standard out put!!!
So It's shite! I think!
In contrast the My08 Sti has a wider track than a normal impreza better cooling (functional vents behind front wheels for the more responsive top mounted intercooler) more power , lighter , lower center of gravity and still does everything the evo does practicality wise!
