I thought you can only get a number in sequence ie. if they are at 10500 in dublin then you can't get 10571 until they reach that number?

Personally I think they should have it like the english system, proper custom reg plates like 95 STI if you want it. It would make them revenue and it would be cool too

only problem with that would be "its not very patriotic or identifyable"
Meaning the snobby feckers wouldnt be able to work out where ya from and they would only have to use their feckin brain a bit more!!!!

its not 100% correct, its 99%

the first 1000 regs are kept for people who would like to pay for them e.g.

nialls 22b, when he imported his car he was able to get 98 ** 228(22b) buy paying that little bit extra to the vrt people

and i now of plenty of people with 555 regs and bwn 320,325, 330 etc

When they see a trend in numbers being looked for they pull them out and then make you pay for them like 555 etc back in the day

first 1000 regs isnt true anyway Johnny , my parents bought there latest new car in 2008 ,and the reg was 238 , not booked , nothing more than the dealer been given the number ,

It used to be 201 being the first number available in westmeath anyway, I had to go down the first day of every year to the registry office for my dad and reg all the new cars

Think its only certain counties that reserve the first few numbers, I know Dublin is one of them but i always thought it was the first 500 reserved in Dublin. Could well be wrong though :dontknow:

Thats right Tommy, But only in some counties. Below is a quote from http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/leaflets/vrt5.html

All registration numbers are available for reservation with the exception of the first number of each year issued in Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Waterford e.g. 09-C-1, 09-D-1, 09-L-1, and 09-W-1, which are traditionally reserved for the Mayor/Lord Mayor of those cities and are not available for reservation by anyone else.

They were debating this on the radio this morning... All 29 counsillors in donegal voted that it should be abolished and some other counties are following suit... They will now petition the government to have it abolished... Then some counsillor from Clare started to claim that it should not be abolished because ireland has its own tax laws... even though it contradicts the whole idea of Europe free trade between member states... Didnt get to hear the end of it as i had to come in to work :icon_rolleyes: ... Anyone else hear it?
